Responsibilities

kCura LLC (Chicago, IL) seeks a Software Engineering Manager - Performance responsible for building and leading a highly effective team of software engineers, and working with departmental contacts to support the demands of the department and meet the needs of the product development process. 

Specific responsibilities include: directing, managing, and supervising the software development function; developing and implementing business plans, policies, and procedures; collaborating with other departments to prioritize software development needs including design; evaluating results within business unit to determine if organizational objectives are being met; analyzing and resolving software development issues and needs in terms of the software's full life cycle; maintaining up-to-date knowledge on key technology and industry trends and practices that may affect kCura; integrating best practices in processes and deliverables; evolving and improving processes through utilization of performance metrics to address areas including efficiency, effectiveness, and flexibility; developing, implementing, and adapting strategic plans to achieve sustainable competitive advantage, efficiencies, and long-term success; balancing business priorities with technical complexities to deliver high quality software that meets clients' needs; translating business objectives and determining how to use resources to meet schedules and goals; managing issues of diverse and ambiguous scope which require evaluation of a variety of factors and current business trends; demonstrating kCura Management Competencies (embodies personal learning, building high-performing teams, aligning goals with strategy, making effective decisions) in daily work; and seeking opportunities to apply and enhance management skills to create sustainable success for kCura; developing and administering schedules and performance requirements for subordinates. 

May be required to handle Level II technical support calls after hours on a standard rotation with other senior engineers and managers, usually resulting in two or three times per year. May require occasional travel within the U.S. to support client needs, or to collaborate with other kCura facilities. 

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar technical field of study, plus 6 years of experience in the job offered, as an Engineering Manager, QA Team Lead, Performance/Scalability Tester, or equivalent experience in software engineering involved with building and leading engineering teams. 

Qualifying experience must include 6 years of experience with the following: building high functioning teams including; development of job descriptions, interviewing, candidate selection and resource retention; cross department project coordination including tactical planning, requirements definitions, system resource allocation and status reporting; planning hardware and infrastructure resource needs for performance testing environments; leading engineering continuous improvement initiatives for ensuring software quality; performance testing procedures for eDiscovery industry using standardized data sets that provide real-life examples of system usage; working with eDiscovery system resource configurations and their impacts; and creating and defining test processes for developing different metrics including Benchmark, Baseline, and Threshold types of testing. 

Must also have experience with: Automation, Performance analysis and monitoring tools (HP Loadrunner, AppDynamics, etc); NET software development using C# and Microsoft SQL Server; web development using JavaScript, ASP.NET, AJAX, HTML5; and working with Agile development methodology. 

Must be willing to handle Level II technical support calls after hours on a standard rotation with other senior engineers and managers, usually resulting in two or three times per year. Must be willing to occasional travel within the U.S. to support client needs, or to collaborate with other kCura facilities.
