Sr. Software Engineer- Midtier

We are seeking an experienced Java Developer to join our Grainger Midtier team in our Chicago Loop location, or Lake Forest, IL headquarters.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to design and implement internet-based services, and Middle tier-based solutions, to help our customers interface with Grainger.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform detailed analysis/design of functional and non-functional requirements and translate them to software solutions in the Grainger commerce environments.
  • Participate in task level estimating of work assigned during the project planning stages.
  • Conduct and participate in code reviews that may span multiple projects.
  • Work cross-functionally in evaluating new technology, both proprietary and open source, for use in the Grainger Digital environment.
  • Provide application support and training to developers, testing (both automated and manual) and production support personnel.
  • Support production deployments during go live.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience as a hands-on Java software developer.  Prior experience in a large eCommerce organization or Middleware Project is preferred.
  • Working experience of writing and executing unit tests.
  • Working experience of the Linux CLI.
  • 1+ years of current development in a clustered, service oriented architecture using Java technologies.
  • Experience building large-scale web applications and web services.
  • Knowledge of messaging standards, REST, JSON, SOAP, and services development.
  • Knowledge of performance testing and tuning of java software applications in a clustered environment.
  • Strong out of the box thinking while also adhering to coding standards and best practices
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team consisting of both technical and business members.
  • Excellent communication skills and a results-oriented attitude.
