Job Summary:

RedShelf is a higher-ed tech startup based in Chicago, IL. Our mission is to help the learning community transition from print to digital course materials.

Over the past five years, RedShelf experienced 400% YOY growth, and we’re looking to add a talented and passionate Staff Accountant to work on day-to-day accounting activities. The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports, audit financial reporting for compliance and review company’s financial status to ensure there are no discrepancies.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Performs monthly reconciliation of client and vendor statements
  • Assist with billing reports, billing scheduling and billing discrepancies
  • Monitor purchase order process and properly back up documentation has been submitted and filed with vendor invoice
  • Perform other accounting, audit, and tax duties as needed
  • Become proficient at preparing financial statements
  • Obtain working knowledge of accounting and auditing and tax research techniques and the various resources available
  • Document processes and pursue process improvements
  • Preparation of entity and individual tax returns
  • Assist with monitoring corporate credit cards auditing and code/track receipts monthly
  • Communicates effectively with manager and other staff members in a professional environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Working towards obtaining CPA license or CPA license preferred
  • 1-3 years of public accounting experience
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and other Accounting Systems; experience with QuickBooks and Xero is preferred
  • Knowledge of current audit and accounting concepts

Other Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge and appreciation of the advances in higher educational software, course materials, and digital publishing
  • Background and/or experience in educational technology and/or publishing
  • Comfort and/or experience in a startup environment
