Staff Accountant II
The Staff Accountant II will address the daily accounting needs for a rapidly growing fintech startup, including keeping a close eye on spend across different areas of the business, A/P, A/R, general ledger reconciliations, and payroll processing. S/he will also manage the accounting and control systems and the financial flows between our processing partners, F/X vendors, financial intermediaries, and banks.
We’re a venture capital backed startup located in a stunning office in River North (downtown Chicago) with an additional office in Mexico City. We’ve attracted a talented team with a wealth of collective experience that allows us to understand and tackle the hard problems in the world of money transfer. As Staff Accountant II, working across our Product Development, Operations, Marketing and Compliance teams, you will identify opportunities to streamline and scale accounting processes, and create new in-house processes to help us grow. Familiarity with the modern finance tools of the day will be helpful as we look toward integrating and automating our accounting systems. The Staff Accountant II will also work to develop and ensure compliance with internal controls and assist on ad-hoc projects as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepare financial statements and journal entries
· Perform bank reconciliations
· Ensure adherence to GAAP and related rules and regulations
· Own the month-end close processes and produce monthly/quarterly financial reports
· Develop and ensure compliance with internal financial controls
· Provide annual budget and monthly forecast support
· Support and ownership of ad-hoc projects and analyses
· Support with US State and Federal regulatory filings for MSBs (Money Service Businesses)
QUALIFICATIONS
Technical:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
· CPA and/or Master’s Degree are a plus
· 2-3 years of accounting experience including compiling, interpreting, and analyzing financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and designing financial controls
· Strong working knowledge of GAAP
· Fluency with QuickBooks and Advanced MS Excel skills
· Experience with international transactions (a plus)
