Vokal, a leading Digital Experience Agency, is looking for a passionate backend systems engineer to join our growing team for a contract engagement (approximately 3 months with the possibility of an extension). If you are an experienced Python developer who maybe knows a bit of Golang (Go) development, loves to solve problems and gets excited about agile development process, we can’t wait to have you on board. 

This position is based in our home office, located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.

Position Responsibilities

• Contribute top-notch programming skills to develop highly innovative server solutions for consumer-facing as well as enterprise mobile and web applications
• Support and collaborate with clients, other developers, and designers to determine creative solutions to business and technical problems
• Contribute to internal tooling and projects and/or the open source tools we use
• Help the team stay abreast of technology improvements, tools, languages, etc

Preferred Experience

• Professional software development experience
• BS in Computer Science or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Proven understanding of Python and building web applications

Traits

• Enthusiasm for TF2, HTTP error codes, and vim

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
• A passion for TDD with 100% code coverage
• Enjoys learning new technologies and helping fellow teammates
• Works well with others

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in Python
• Proficiency with Python web frameworks, especially Django or Flask
• At least basic understanding of SQL (any flavor)
• An understanding of RESTful API design
• Basic devops skills, including configuring and scripting UNIX-like OSes

Bonus Technical Skills

• Familiarity with Go and/or JavaScript (AngularJS, Node.js, Grunt)
• Developing and deploying apps using Docker containers
• Experience with building scalable server infrastructure
• Experience with IaaS, particularly AWS or Google Cloud Platform
• Documented contributions to open source projects
