Voice Application Developer
The human voice is capable of conveying nuances and meaning that just can’t be expressed through clicks and text messages. And for that reason, voice interactions have always had a special power to shape our perceptions and experiences. At Vail, we believe in the unique power of voice interactions to create more expressive, more intimate, and more efficient interpersonal interactions. Our experts work with fortune 500 companies to help them serve their customers more efficiently and effectively through the use of various voice technologies. From basic network services, to state-of-the-art IP telephony, to cutting edge real-time analytics, Vail technology makes millions of voice interactions better every day.

What we are looking for:

We believe that all voice interactions have a special power to create great customer experiences even when those interactions are with automated systems. Automated voice experiences should be intuitive and efficient while maintaining a personal feel. Vail voice application developers practice this belief everyday when they create compelling user experiences through intelligent voice browser applications. Creating these kinds of experiences is both an art and a science and requires people with intuition, creativity and an ability to imagine many different user perspectives. We’d like to add a certain kind of person to our team, a person that:
  • Has strong organizational skills and an ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
  • Can understand and bridge user and technical requirements
  • Will thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Can pick up new concepts quickly
  • Has a positive, can-do attitude and an ongoing desire to learn
  • Will enjoy working independently in a fast paced technical environment
What you’ll be doing:

Our voice application team is growing in exciting ways, and as part of that team you’ll be working to design and develop intelligent interactive voice response (IVR) applications. As a voice application developer you will master the art of bringing together our client and designer’s customer experience vision into highly efficient and scalable applications, tightly integrated with other Vail technology. While addressing complex development issues, you’ll have the opportunity to work with several facets of IVR development including system configuration, voice user interface design, backend-end data connection, computer telephony integration (CTI), testing, troubleshooting, application deployment and post- production support. You will enjoy working out of our conveniently located application development office in downtown Chicago.

What we need to see from you:

To be considered for this position, you must have:
  • 1-5 years proven success in a software development role
  • A strong understanding of Object Oriented software development techniques
  • Experience in IVR application development involving complex call flows, reporting and call routing
  • Professional experience with VXML or with an IVR development platform such as Cisco CVP or Genesys
  • A deep understanding of the principles of IVR Voice User Interface design
  • Experience with voice grammars or voice recognition platforms
  • A Computer Science / Engineering degree or equivalent experience
If you believe in the power of voice interactions to shape customer experiences; if you’re committed to solving complex problems that affect every day interactions; if you’re curious about technology that helps people communicate more freely and effectively; you want to be part of this team!
