Under general
supervision, functions as a technical expert in the design, development,
implementation, and maintenance of computer applications for web-enabled
business systems, and performs related duties as required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Gathers, documents, and
analyzes business requirements in order to define the scope of web-based
software applications - Performs system analysis and
system design functions for highly difficult web-based software
applications and systems - Designs, develops,
implements, and maintains complex software programs and procedures for
digital products that are built to perform services, collect and manage
information, and automate business processes - Monitors and maintains
computer software applications to sustain their day-to-day availability,
performance, reliability, and security. Provides timely break/fix
support when software applications fail or do not work as intended. - Modifies and maintains
computer programs, procedures, and databases to address evolving
service, information, regulatory, and process changes, as well as
technology, security, infrastructure and other environmental changes - Troubleshoots and corrects
complex software defects and malfunctions - Employs industry-standard
processes to test and implement defect-free, high-quality software
applications that meet system performance, response-time, and
reliability requirements - Produces documentation of
various types associated with software applications (e.g., functional
requirements, logical designs, technical designs, test plans, etc.) - Recommends improvements and
upgrades to current computer systems based on various factors (e.g.,
business needs, availability of new technology, etc.)

Qualifications
- Three years of experience in
the design and development of computerized systems, including at least
one year designing, coding, and implementing public-facing production
websites and interactive web applications using the Java programming
language and framework
Education &

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires
an applicant to successfully complete an interview. The interviewed
candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the
responsibilities of the position will be selected.
Preference will be
given to candidates possessing the following:
- Previous HTML, CSS, and
JavaScript experience
VETERANS PREFERENCE
NOTE: The City of Chicago offers Veterans Preference to both current,

served in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received an
honorable or general discharge. Eligible candidates must have at least six
months of active duty documented. In order to receive the veterans
preference, candidates need to indicate whether or not they are a veteran by

“Are you currently serving on active duty for at least six months in the
Armed Forces of the United States OR have you served in the
Armed Forces of the United States on active duty for at least six months and
received an honorable or general discharge?” In addition, you must attach
documentation to verify your military service. For veterans, you must attach
a copy of your DD214 (Member Copy-4) to your online application which
includes character of service status OR a letter from the United
States Veterans Administration on official stationary stating dates of
service and character of service. For active military personnel, you must
attach a letter from your Commanding Office on official stationary verifying
your active duty, length of service, and character of service in the Armed
Forces of the United States AND a copy of your military ID to your
online application. Failure to answer the question and attach the required
documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans
Preference.
Evaluation: Your initial evaluation
will be based on information provided on the application form and documents
submitted with the application. Applications must be submitted by the

Residency Requirement:
All employees of the City must be actual residents of the City
as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of
residency will be required.
