About the Program:
The Engineering Development Program (EDP) is all about developing the next generation of industry leaders and technical experts. The purpose of Caterpillar's Engineering Development Program is to harness your ability and further develop you through assignments and learning opportunities so that you may not only fulfill your career ambition but provide excellent service to Caterpillar and its customers.
Our Engineering Development Program enhances the experience of engineering graduates transitioning from student to full-time engineer. You'll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar leadership.
An engineering software development position is available in the following area:
Machine Simulation
Develop and apply advanced computational models to understand, verify, and improve the design of components, systems, products, and processes. Specific focus will be on Machine Performance Analysis tool development and applications related to earth-implement interaction. Selected individual will work with very specialized teams within Caterpillar to develop different software packages for variety of applications to support Caterpillar product development processes.
This position is located in Mossville, Illinois.

Basic Qualifications:
* A PhD in a relevant field (Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Aerospace Engineering)
* Expected graduation date December 2019 - August 2021
* Programming skills (C++, modern C++ and Python)
* Previous technical internship/co-op or relevant experience, preferably in Discreet Element Methods
* Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 at current institution
Top candidates will also have:
* Numerical modeling of earthen materials (FEA, DEM, MFM)
* Geomechanics background
* Background and interest in physics-based analysis of systems and components
* Leadership experience
