Job Summary:
The Advanced Power Products (APP) group within the Large Power Systems Division is looking for an Engineer to support our controls and software developments in advanced power systems focusing on electrification. In this role, you will be responsible to deliver sustainable solutions to our customers around the world through the development of battery and fuel cell power systems. You will work with application teams across Caterpillar industries in Construction, Mining, and Energy & Transportation to gather requirements, conduct work cycle performance analysis to evaluate different technology sets, and develop control systems to ensure robust operation in the field. This is a high impact role with the opportunity to influence the direction of future Caterpillar products and get experience working with customers as they make the journey through the energy transition.
JOB PURPOSE:
This is the third career level in engineering and represents a shift from learning and assisting to fully contributing in assignments that are broader, more complex, and challenging in nature.
JOB DUTIES:
Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following:
- Perform needs analysis and initiate ideas.
- Evaluate new products, processes, or systems.
- Communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units.
- Contribute to the design of new products and processes.
- Perform product and process maintenance.
- Collaborate with and support other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers, maintain technical currency, and represent the company externally.
The Engineer - Performance/Simulation/Application must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology.
Key learning should be rounded out during this tenure, including knowledge of Caterpillar and competitive product performance and application, understanding of customers' needs, working knowledge of key processes, data analysis, and data extraction skills. Project management skills are being honed at this level.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited curriculum
- 3+ years of relevant engineering work experience or a Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited curriculum plus 1-2 years experience
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong communication skills - Oral and written complemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations
- Ability to work effectively with team members and others in the work group, as well employees in other units
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Experience with embedded controls development or plant model development
- Experience or coursework dealing with battery electric and/or fuel cell electric power systems simulation or controls development

- This position will close on 2/16/22 @ 11:59PM.
- This position is required to work onsite at the Peoria, IL Proving Grounds.
- This position may require travel up to 10%.
