Product/Privacy Counsel

Who We’re Looking For:
DISQO is looking for an experienced, practical Product/Privacy Counsel with at least 6 years of relevant experience to join our growing legal team. As Product/Privacy Counsel, you'll have a broad and diverse range of responsibilities, while focused on providing legal guidance on global data privacy issues, product development, new products/services, technology, marketing, consumer protection, and regulatory compliance. As we continue to expand both on the territory and product fronts, your ideas and contributions will make an immediate and lasting impact on DISQO.
What You Get To Do:
- Advise and assist DISQO’s Product, Product Management, Engineering, Marketing and other cross-functional teams on privacy, regulatory and a range of other legal issues in designing and building new products, services and features throughout the entire product development and launch lifecycle.
- Partner with internal teams to review new uses of personal data to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and best industry practices.
- Partner closely with DISQO’s security team, including in developing and maintaining DISQO’s data subject requests, data privacy assessments, incident responses, and privacy by design principles/strategies.
- Remain up-to-date and advise on relevant industry, consumer protection, advertising, IP, and privacy and data security laws, regulations and developments to provide an ongoing ability to provide sound compliance advice.
- Ensure compliance with US and international laws and regulations dealing with privacy, data protection, content regulation, consumer protection, accessibility, cybersecurity, and advertising.
- Collaborate in the drafting, updating and maintaining of various DISQO forms, standard terms and public-facing documents, including privacy policies, terms of use, in-app notices, product policies/descriptions, marketing and other content, and other legal disclosures.
- Manage data protection language in standard contractual agreements, and partner with other legal team members and other business units in negotiating customer and vendor agreements to help ensure the company's compliance with laws, regulations, and privacy.
- Advise and assist in responding to various customer and vendor privacy and data security questionnaires, regulatory inquiries, and external and internal audits, as necessary.
- Work with colleagues across the organization to improve compliance programs for privacy and data security, including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, and help to develop global standards and processes surrounding privacy and data protection
- Conduct privacy assessments of business initiatives, manage privacy compliance documentation and help with compliance certifications.
What You Bring To The Role:
- Licensed to practice law in a US jurisdiction
- 6+ years of combined, relevant experience in top-tier law firms and in-house legal departments
- At least two years of experience working on privacy and data protection matters, including strong/deep knowledge of and experience with US and global privacy and cybersecurity laws, including CCPA/CPRA and GDPRFamiliarity with launching products and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
- A self-starter with the ability to work well alone as well as collaboratively.
- Excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to think critically, strategically and creatively; ability to understand business goals to generate pragmatic and effective legal solutions
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to work as part of diverse and multicultural teams
- Attention to detail, business-friendly, and a fantastic teammate and team player who is able to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and balance multiple tasks in a very fast-paced environment without the need for micro-management; a strong desire to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done
- Able to communicate (verbal and written) effectively across the company on complex issues; ability to explain complex legal matters and the balance between benefits and risks to DISQO
- Comfortable with technology and technical terminology; experience working directly with product teams and engineers
- Familiarity and/or experience in the fields of consumer insights and marketing, as well as SaaS is a plus
- Ability to manage and work with outside counsel in both a domestic and international setting
- Privacy certification a plus (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM)
