Senior Accountants on the Apex Finance team are responsible for handling month-end close duties and analysis of financial details. This role interacts with several APEX teams, including Billing, Regulatory Reporting, Treasury, Client Service, Operations, Compliance, and Technology.
The Senior Accountant must be a critical thinker, analytical, energetic, and possess strong attention to detail. Specifically, the senior level individual is expected to manage larger and/or more complex daily tasks, independently solve complex problems on behalf of themselves and other team members, help recommend and implement ideas that improve the overall group performance, train other team members and perform a supervisory review of internal control processes.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Perform assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes
- Estimate, analyze and record month-end expense accruals
- Drive expense reporting process and A/P process to facilitate close
- Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts
- Proactively communicate daily status and escalate issues as needed
- Handle other accounting duties as assigned (Examples: revenue analysis, inventory, fixed asset management, intercompany expenses)
- Work with Regulatory Reporting team to pull critical data for regulatory filings
- Handle audit requests for financial statement audit and regulatory exams
- Actively cross-train to provide back-up coverage for all team members
- Solve complex operational problems and proactively determine and implement improvements to workflows and controls, minimize risk and manual workflows and reduce inefficiencies
- Actively participate in firmwide and departmental projects and initiatives, occasionally acting as the lead
- Serve as a supervisory control function for one or more internal control activities of the department
- Serve as a back-up and resource to department management and accounting staff for daily or ad-hoc tasks
The skills you'll need to succeed:
Required
- Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience, preferably in a similar role for a clearing or investment firm, proprietary trading firm, bank or trust company
- Excellent attention to detail, an exceptionally high degree of initiative and adaptability, and the ability to multi-task
- The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- The ability to work with numerous and conflicting deadlines
- The ability to perform many complex and confidential tasks with speed and accuracy
- Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems
- The ability to exercise independent judgment
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to communicate constructively within the department and the firm
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and MS Outlook
Preferred
- Public Accounting experience
- Experience using NetSuite accounting system
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel abilities
