Position Details:
Grainger is looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer. You will work with Engineers, Architects and Analysts to develop product design solutions in a cloud environment. They work with Technical Product Managers by contributing to planning product roadmaps and backlog priorities.
Grainger's Platform Engineers are hybrid systems engineers who build, test, deploy, and support products. We are a team of varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new grads to industry veterans. Relevant industry experience is important (Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), Systems Engineer, Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, Linux Administrator, Database Administrator or similar role). Working knowledge in a cloud environment. .
You Will:

  • Improve observability across the entire eco-system
  • Administer observability tools and solve observability related issues
  • Ensure system stability and reduce MTTR.
  • Define and implement modern incident management process to support devops. Manage the incident management escalation policies in VictorOps (Splunk On-Call)
  • Drive technical initiatives to improve automation, self healing/remediation
  • Help mentor and develop junior team members
  • Grow and evangelize the capabilities of the Dynatrace platform
  • Implementing unique distributed trace-id across all components of the system


You Have:

  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering or Computer Science or Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in at least one of the following languages: Java, Python, or Go.
  • Experience with cloud native technologies such as containers, Kubernetes, Istio. Familiarity with EKS is a plus.
  • Understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with CircleCI is an added advantage
  • Demonstrate experience within the observability domain (traces, metrics, and logs).
  • Experience working with microservices.
  • Ability to define the strategies, patterns, solutions to improve the reliability of the system
  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems
  • And conducting blameless postmortems
  • Have a knack for automation and a passion for reducing toil


Bonus:
AWS, Kubernetes, EKS. Familiarity with tools like Dynatrace, Splunk and Open Telemetry is a plus. Knowledge of shell language is an added advantage.
