9 Chicago tech companies where you might just nab the gig of a lifetime

Whether you’re looking to break into the tech scene or you're more established and looking for something new, there’s never been a better time than to start than now. Kick off the search by checking out the open positions at these fast-growing Chicago tech companies.

 

What they do: Snapsheet builds auto insurance technology that streamlines the process of submitting an insurance claim. Its solutions also provide ways for customers, insurance carriers and repair facilities to communicate with one another.

Sweet perks: Snapsheet has the basics covered, with health insurance that includes dental and vision and flexible paid time off. The company also has intramural sports teams, beer on tap, regular happy hours, a game room and a cereal bar.

What they do: Founded by Chicago serial entrepreneur Eric Lefkofsky, Tempus is building a platform for storing and analyzing data about genomics and clinical trials that physicians can use to personalize care for cancer patients. Its machine learning technology is designed specifically for use in a clinical setting, providing users with real-time decision support.

What they look for: “At Tempus, we look for candidates who are habitual learners and who can adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment,” said COO Ryan Fukushima. “Our team is full of passionate, driven and intelligent individuals who roll up their sleeves to make improvements each and every day. We look for candidates who don’t shy away from big challenges, and we give them the autonomy to use their expertise to reach our goal of bringing data-driven decision making to cancer care.”

 

What they do: Operating on 90 financial exchanges around the world, IMC Financial Markets was one of the first entrants into tech-driven trading. The company has offices in Amsterdam and Sydney and employs 150 techies in Chicago.

What they do: Vivid Seats is a fast-growing online marketplace for sports, concert and theater tickets. The company has official partnerships with ESPN, Sports Illustrated, the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame's Fighting Irish and the Big Ten Conference, to name a few.

Sweet perks: Employees at Vivid Seats get discounted employee tickets to live events, a 401(k) with matching and paid leave for new mothers and fathers. They also get flexible PTO, discounted gym memberships, sports league opportunities, subsidized meals and all of the healthy snacks, fountain soda, coffee and energy drinks they want.

What they look for: “At Vivid Seats, high-performing teams collaborate to deliver outstanding value and quality to all of our applications,” said vice president of engineering Brent Walker. “To achieve this, we look for strong technical expertise as well as individuals who are up for continuously improving their skills and learning from those around them.”

 

What they do: CityBase works with government agencies, utilities and municipalities to provide cloud-based software that makes it easier for the public to find and access services. The platform handles building permits, parking tickets and much more, and is accessible via desktop, mobile and kiosks.

Sweet perks: With a new collaborative office in the Loop, and regular outings for teams and the company as a whole, CityBase is all about cohesion. The company also offers competitive pay, unlimited PTO, stock options, health insurance and paid parental leave.

What they look for: “We're looking for candidates who thrive on solving problems and collaborating with a broad set of people both inside and outside the company,” said CEO Mike Duffy. “We serve government and utilities. What they do: SilkRoad makes cloud-based software that helps HR teams improve engagement with employees. Its flagship Talent Activation platform provides employees with a mobile interface for accessing company resources and gives employers analytics that help them discover bottlenecks in the onboarding process.

Sweet perks: In addition to flexible PTO and comprehensive health care coverage, SilkRoad offers employees life insurance and short- and long-term disability insurance. It also provides a 401(k), commuter and flexible spending accounts, and a company wellness program.

What they do: DialogTech provides businesses with advanced analytics that help them understand how online and offline marketing efforts drive customers to pick up the phone and call. The company’s analytics suite also aids companies with qualifying leads and improving call routing and performance within the company’s call center.

Sweet perks: The perks of working at DialogTech include unlimited vacation, free breakfast, weekly yoga, games, snacks, fruits and drinks. For new parents, the company provides 100-percent paid parental leave.

What they do: STATS is a global provider of sports analytics technology and content. The company works with more than 800 teams, leagues and brands to deliver real-time sports data and fantasy sports technology.
