What they do: Groupon’s on-demand marketplace connects consumers with local merchants offering deals on products and experiences. To do so efficiently, the company’s engineers stay on the cutting edge of mobile technologies, data science and machine learning.

Sweet perks: Groupon’s team enjoys flexible hours and a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 401(k), an employee stock purchase program, and health, life and disability insurance. The company also offers a paid leave program for new parents and an on-site café.

What they look for: “Groupon’s massive mobile marketplace helps connect people with the best things to do, see, eat and buy in their community,” said Varun Sood, senior manager of software engineering in Chicago. "If you have a passion for local discovery, and want to learn the mechanics of scale, there’s no better place than a company with more than 48 million customers and 150 million app downloads.”

 

 

 

What they do: One of Chicago’s biggest tech employers, Trustwave works with companies to protect data and prevent cybercrime. In addition to a range of security products, the company offers consulting services and conducts independent security research, penetration testing and forensics through its SpiderLabs team.
