ActiveCampaign opens new office to double its headcount (again)

Chicago marketing technology provider ActiveCampaign just moved offices to make room for 150 additional hires.

The new offices, which officially opened on Monday, span 50,000 square feet and is located in the One North Dearborn building, which used to house the Sears flagship store.

The space is equally divided between an open office and dedicated meeting and gathering spaces.

“We have a culture that encourages constant iteration and eschews hierarchies, and we wanted our workspace to reflect that,” said Jason VandeBoom, CEO and founder of ActiveCampaign in a statement. “We knew that we were quickly outgrowing our former office, and we felt it was time to shift locations and create a space that serves as a collaboration hub for our employees.”

The company said its employees were involved in designing the new headquarters. Employees also named each of the 57 conference rooms, drawing on popular culture: think Hogwarts, King's Landing, New New York and Metropolis.

Founded in 2003, ActiveCampaign makes automated marketing software that helps small and medium-sized businesses nurture leads and maintain relationships throughout the customer life cycle.

The company pivoted from selling perpetual software licenses to a SaaS model four years ago, aligning the stars for its current growth stage.

After starting 2017 with 80 employees, VandeBoom expects to end the year with somewhere between 200 and 250. ActiveCampaign’s new headquarters can accommodate up to 350.
