What if an indoor air quality (IAQ) program existed that helped make offices safer to work in during and after the pandemic? At cohesion, such a program is currently in the works. It’s just one compelling project being developed by one of the following tech companies, all of which are hiring in Chicago.
Tech professionals working at cohesion, closerlook, inc. and Mothership not only shared the most interesting challenges they’re currently solving, but also gave the inside scoop on the professional development opportunities and company culture at each organization.
For example, Matt Williams, a senior sales manager at Mothership, said the logistics company’s culture could best be described as nimble, transparent and nurturing.
“Mothership requires its sales team to quickly adapt to change while remaining productive,” Williams said. “We see such opportunities as a way to seek constant improvement in career development.”
For job seekers, these behind-the-scene glimpses into local tech companies could help shed light on whether a company is a good fit or not, before they even apply.
What they do: Mothership is a logistics company focused on making freight delivery more efficient. The team helps clients track freight in real time, book trucks on demand and get same-day delivery.
Mothership’s company culture in one word: Adaptability. “Mothership requires its sales team to quickly adapt to change while remaining productive,” Senior Sales Manager Matt Williams said. “Individuals embrace any new responsibilities in their role. “We see such opportunities as a way to seek constant improvement in career development.”
Williams said the sales team immediately implements managerial feedback and adapts well to constantly changing scenarios.
Emphasis on professional growth: “I have been with Mothership for a short period of time, but I’m energized and inspired to continue to grow the Chicago office,” Williams said. “Mothership fosters a transparent and supportive culture. Leadership pushes our sales team to be the best they can every single day.”
According to Williams, all employees are encouraged to implement ideas and lead confidently while they learn and grow. The team does regular “lunch and learns” and comes together for volunteer activities.
What they do: closerlook, inc. is a digital marketing agency that connects biopharma brands with healthcare professionals using data analytics.
Closerlook, inc.’s company culture in one word: Motivating. “We get to collaborate with teams that are made of people from all walks of life, with different backgrounds and experiences,” Art Director Nicole Ngo said. “We get to learn from each other and help each other grow. When you are in such an environment, the energy makes you want to be better for yourself and for your team and company.”
Emphasis on professional growth opportunities: “I have been with the company for a year now, and I can honestly say that I have experienced enormous growth,” Ngo said. “I have not only met many personal career-focused goals I have set for myself, but also ones my manager and I discussed upon my hiring.”
Ngo said that all of the opportunities she’s been presented with have aligned with her path to grow within the agency.
What they do: Cohesion wants to change how buildings operate and how people engage with them. Its IoT-enabled platform equips building owners and operators with actionable intelligence through connected operations and communities.
Cohesion’s company culture in one word: Openness. “Internally and with our customers, we believe in being honest and transparent,” CEO of the IoT real estate company, Thru Shivakumar, said. “We discuss opportunities and challenges candidly, with a solution-oriented mindset. We partner with our customers and partners on a vision and collaboratively work with them to achieve that vision.”
Shivakumar said the team openly shares its product roadmap so that partners and customers see employees’ focus and feel inspired in their ambitions.
The coolest project Shivakumar has worked on recently: An indoor air quality (IAQ) program with Riverside Investment and Development and Environmental Systems Design (ESD). The program combines air purification, filtration and ventilation to make offices safer to work in during the current pandemic.
“The program goes live at 150 North Riverside, a commercial office building in Chicago, this summer,” Shivakumar said. “This is a perfect example of how Cohesion quickly adapts to market needs. Before COVID-19, proptech was a crowded and growing industry, but real estate was still relatively slow to adopt new technologies. COVID-19 changed that.”
