There’s a reason why Cisco Meraki wants to expand its presence in Mexico City.
With a steady increase in local tech graduates, an abundance of IT hubs and governmental support of tech ventures, Mexico has both the resources and talent to solidify its place in the global tech industry — and Meraki wants to help the nation do just that from the heart of its bustling capital city.
“This is a great time to work in tech and live in Mexico City,” Meraki Technical Support Manager Chris Ruiz said. “For one, Mexico City is a buzzing tech hub, making it attractive for industry leaders and early-stage tech talent.”
According to Ruiz, the Mexico City office aims to fill several roles in network support engineering and is also searching for interns. The company’s internship program, which is accessible for both university students and recent graduates, provides emerging talent with hands-on experience and offers them the opportunity to join the organization full time once the program is completed.
Ruiz said that interns and full-time employees can expect to step into an “inspiring, fun and balanced” environment when they come into the Mexico City office, which offers a recreational room, cafeterias and rooms for rest and relaxation. Besides that, the office is located near many restaurants, shops and other attractions, enabling employees to make the most of what the city has to offer.
But it’s not just the office that makes Meraki a great place to work in Mexico City. Network Support Engineer Sarah Lopez said that her teammates are always supportive and eager to help each other learn.
“We collaborate and solve problems together,” she shared. “If I need help, I always know that my team cares and has my back.”
Ruiz echoed Lopez’s statement, sharing that he loves the “very open and supportive” culture he gets to work in.
“There is a big emphasis on growth, development and collaboration,” he said. “We work together to achieve our collective goals and evolve as a team.”

The Culture at the Meraki Mexico City Office
Meraki strives to cultivate a culture in which everyone feels connected and empowered to deliver their best work, which is something that Network Support Engineer Pablo Ramirez has encountered firsthand.
“No matter where we are, we’re always happy to help one another troubleshoot an issue,” Ramirez said.
This culture is rooted in seven principles: flexibility, autonomy, collaboration, inclusion, simplicity, energy and humility. For Lopez, collaboration and humility resonate the most, reflected in the ways in which she and her peers work together every day.
“We treat each other with respect and foster a comfortable environment to share perspectives and ask questions,” she said. “We operate under the notion that we are all learning and approaching our work in various ways. There is no one way to do something.”

Ramirez sees flexibility, autonomy and collaboration most vividly in his day-to-day work. He shared that he and his teammates can modify their schedules and prioritize projects and tasks when needed while working together to share resources, discuss issues and find solutions.
“Of course, we must be responsible and get our work done in a timely manner, but there is flexibility around how we schedule our day and manage our time,” Ramirez said. “Additionally, our team collaborates often — we share resources, discuss issues and solve problems together.”
Ruiz added that he aims to uphold this culture through his own leadership approach, which prioritizes frequent and honest communication.
“I have an open-door policy — my team can always reach out and ask questions,” he said. “They don’t need to schedule a meeting or ask permission to talk with me.”
Since joining the company nearly 13 years ago as a customer support engineer, Ruiz has learned what it takes to succeed and knows what the experience is like for people who are closer to the beginning of their career journey. That’s why he strives to maintain close connections with those on his team.
“Now, as a Meraki manager, it’s easy for me to sympathize with my team, help them work with customers, learn new technologies and get new certifications,” Ruiz said. “Considering this, my leadership approach will always involve being an active listener.”
What it Takes to Thrive at the Meraki Mexico City Office
According to Ruiz, there are some skills job candidates will need to work out of the Meraki Mexico City office, such as the ability to speak both English and Spanish. While Mexico City-based team members work with many Spanish-speaking customers, the documentation they rely on is written in English, and most of their colleagues are located in the United States.
Harnessing the ‘Meraki Magic’
While there are many characteristics that define the culture at the Meraki Mexico City office, there’s one underlying element that underpins it all — and it’s called “Meraki Magic.”
Meraki Magic can mean many different things. For Lopez, it’s rooted in the company’s technology.
“Meraki products simplify our customers’ processes and operations, enabling them to fulfill their mission,” she said. “Meraki Magic is all about developing intuitive technology that makes people’s lives easier.”
In Ramirez’s mind, it comes down to the ways in which the company supports its customers.
“Meraki Magic shines through in our ability to provide excellent customer service to our clients and support them in achieving their goals,” he said. “We approach troubleshooting with compassion and empathy — we genuinely care about our customers, and that’s the magic.”

At Meraki, everyone has the opportunity to showcase their talents to the world. For Ruiz, having the chance to “accomplish your greatest ambitions” is what Meraki Magic is all about, reflected in the ways in which employees are encouraged to grow.
“When we have the support to reach our goals, we are better equipped to help our customers pursue their mission,” he said. “It’s a cycle of success.”
This “cycle of success” is accessible to everyone who walks through the doors of the Meraki Mexico City office. Whether they’re an intern or an experienced professional, everyone who decides to be a part of the company’s expansion in Mexico will have ample opportunities to shape their own future — and the future of technology around the globe.
