The Chicago tech community turned out in record force last Thursday for Meet the Makers, our new meetup event to celebrate the success of our latest graduating class.

Recruiters, future Makers, alumni and friends of Mobile Makers Academy were the first to see the six apps that our teams built in just three weeks. Earlier in the day, our newest alumni uploaded their apps to the App Store for review, the culmination of eight intensive weeks learning to code in iOS.

Check out more photos from Meet the Makers here. And watch for these six apps to appear in the App Store in the next couple weeks:

AirHockey by Antonio Grimaldo and Andres Pesate lets you play between two devices on a local network, as well as in one- or two-player mode on a single device.

Crimeter by Joel Arcos, Umut Kanbak and Maria Merino indicates areas where criminal activity has been reported near your location in Chicago, using a unique compass interface.

With GIFit2me by Andres Castillo and Alex Choi, you can easily search for animated GIFs, then copy and paste them into email or text messages and social media.

Krowd by Julie Caccavo, Kin Bariso and Eddie Kang uses geo-fencing to locate the restaurant or club you’re visiting, then you take a photo and post it on Facebook for other users to vote up, providing organic consumer reviews of Chicago nightlife.

Nick of Time by Brian Dinh, Norm Gershon and Matthew Kish will get your heart racing as you try to complete simple tasks at an increasingly fast pace.

Can’t decide which movie to see? PikFlick by Jeremy Herrero, Jessica Sturme and Brad Woodard shows what’s playing near you. Then, using swipe gestures, you select or eliminate films, give your device a shake, and PikFlick randomly selects one from your choices.

We at Mobile Makers Academy are proud and awed by the accomplishments of our latest class, and we’re grateful for the strong show of support from the tech community that turned out for this event.
