"Judson Bergman still has the December 1999 cover of Wired magazine showing a naked female version of Icarus jumping off a cliff: hands splayed, back arched and new wings unleashed. It reminds him of the leap he took that year when he founded Envestnet Inc.
“Here we go” was the cover title. The world was plunging into a new millennium, and Mr. Bergman was diving into a new business.
As head of mutual funds at Nuveen Investments, he had seen financial advisers start to migrate from big banks to independent advisory startups.
