engineers_blog.jpgNational Engineers Week calls attention to the contributions that engineers make to society. And, it is a time for engineers to emphasize the importance of learning math, science, and technical skills. The annual celebration dates back to 1951 and is always during the week of George Washington’s birthday - our first president had a background in engineering and Land Surveying. Solstice is proud to have joined the celebration of our engineers across the globe and how they make a difference in our world.

Who were we celebrating?

So who are we celebrating at Solstice? While we know that every person at the company plays a crucial role in making Solstice great, we take this week to specifically highlight our IT Technicians, engineers, and architects across all of our offices. These are the technical SMEs at the firm, who are able to provide insights to our clients, teach their functional counterparts, and coach each other to make sure everyone is consistently becoming a better engineer.

Why were we celebrating?

The specific purpose of Engineers Week for Solstice is to highlight what our Engineers do for us and to celebrate their accomplishments. We celebrate because Solstice has awesome engineers. Over the last year alone, these men and women have contributed greatly to the firm.

culture_pic7.jpgAs a firm, we strive to serve our clients well. Our engineers worked on over 140 projects in 2015, consistently delivering successful custom solutions for our clients. In order to provide the best solutions possible, our engineers have been able to adapt and learn new technologies this year, leading to the start of an iOT service line and more capabilities inVirtual Reality.

Outside of client projects, our engineers give back, lead hackathons, and are huge contributors to our culture. One of our own even won Europe’s largest Blockchain Hackathon. Our engineers also presented at Solstice’s first FWD Conference, which allowed them to show off the cool projects that they had been working on.

How did we celebrate?

Our incredible engineers deserve nothing but the best, so Engineering Week was packed with ways to honor their contributions to the firm.

Screen_Shot_2016-02-29_at_4.11.07_PM.pngThe week kicked off with our CTO presenting to the whole company on his career path and his passion for technology. Throughout the week, we had a series of eChallenges, where our engineers were able to compete for prizes. We also had an "eWall of Fame" in our internal community, where anyone in the company could recognize an engineer and highlight their accomplishments. ZipFit Denim came to the office and offered a special deal for our engineers. Finally, the week ended with a game night, where all of our engineers were invited to play board games and video games after work.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s Engineers Week and all the other opportunities to highlight everything that our engineers do. Thank you to all of our awesome Engineers!
