Neighborhoods.com Trades Laptops for Hammers with Habitat for Humanity

At Neighborhoods.com, we place a premium on taking time to give back to our local communities. This summer, that drive for volunteerism took the form of helping to build homes for Habitat for Humanity in the West Pullman neighborhood of Chicago.

Our company spends day-in and day-out building the best real estate site possible to help people find the perfect home in the perfect neighborhood. Unfortunately, in Chicago alone there are over 250,000 families who are in need of affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity does an amazing job of putting the dream of a home in reach for these families, so we decided to partner with the organization through fundraising and a team build event.

35 volunteers from our office took the day off from their normal tasks, put on hard hats, and got to work. Even though most of us had little to no construction experience, we quickly caught on thanks to the helpful staff from Habitat. We did everything from building closets and installing windows to securing roofing and painting completed walls. After a long day on the construction site, one thing is for sure –– the Neighborhoods.com team isn’t afraid of getting our hands dirty!

While some of us took away practical skills, we all walked away from our Habitat for Humanity experience with a greater understanding of what goes into building the roofs over our heads. We strive to continue in our efforts to improve the lives of our Chicago neighbors, as well as our neighbors across the country. As a show of solidarity with Habitat for Humanity, our team raised over $10,000 for the cause so that our efforts will help beyond just our day on the construction site.
