When hospitals and healthcare clinics started transitioning to EHR (or “Electronic Health Records”) a few years ago, some of the most common complaints from health professionals were that learning and using the new systems was difficult and time-consuming. One Chicago company aims to ease that pain. SA Ignite, a healthcare IT firm, provides solutions to improve Meaningful Use reporting for a variety of healthcare providers.

Last week, SA Ignite announced a Series A preferred round led by Aligned Partners for $1,586,484, according to an SEC filing. According to Tom Lee, founder and CEO, SA Ignite will use the funds to “scale implementation, engineering and support to serve existing clients, such as Intermountain Healthcare, and grow sales and marketing to further penetrate health systems, academic medical centers, and large medical groups.

SA Ignite’s flagship product is MU Assistant, which Lee says has become “the de-facto ‘TurboTax for EHR Meaningful Use reporting’ to Medicare and Medicaid.” The government defines Meaningful Use as standards set by Medicare and Medicaid incentive programs that allows providers who meet specific criteria to earn incentive payments. MU Assistant is a cloud-based system that streamlines this process for healthcare providers.

Of Aligned Partners, Lee said he admired their “deep expertise and successful experience in growing capital-efficient, B2B cloud businesses.” His 10-person team works out of ITA Tech Nexus at 200 S. Wacker. With this funding, they will continue to improve their offerings, striving to make it even easier for medical providers to identify and claim relevant payments.
