Copywriter - Digital
Primary Function:
The Copywriter produces product copy and other written content in order to curate and present Grainger’s assortment to help customers quickly and confidently understand the products. Working with Merchandisers and Copy Editors, he or she will research, write, and review written content to ensure it contains all necessary information to address common customer questions and that it is presented in clear, concise language. The Copywriter also helps maintain and adheres to style guidelines and publishing standards outlined in documentation. This position is remote-only with an emphasis on production.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create high-quality, differentiated product copy and other written content that meets publishing standards for digital channels
- Ensure written content anticipates and addresses customer questions about Grainger’s product assortment
- Review produced copy within context on digital channels, ensuring that it augments and complements other elements, such as product data, photography, CGI, and site structure, to help customers make confident, informed purchasing decisions
- Research products to write with authority and work with product experts to ensure copy provides useful information supported by reputable sources, product data, or Merchandising guidance
- Maintain clarity and consistency of copy style, notifying Copy Editor of any potential revisions or additions to team’s editorial style guide
- Manage and track individual projects to ensure they are completed on time
- Identify and recommend solutions for problems or obstacles that may prevent accomplishment of objectives
Preferred Education & Experience:
- BA/BS or equivalent preferred
- Thorough understanding of technical product information and feature-benefit copy principle
- Ability to conduct research and synthesize information from different sources into well-crafted, concise, customer-friendly language
- Thorough understanding of rules of grammar, punctuation, and style
- Working knowledge of direct marketing/catalog industry
- Working knowledge of keyword research and basic SEO principles
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work in deadline-driven environment and handle multiple (often conflicting) priorities at the same time
- Project management skills
- Attention to detail
