We’re looking for a Managing Editor/Copy Chief who is equally passionate about perfect grammar and ensuring content flows smoothly through the pipeline. Join us in this editorial role and help us create exceptional experiences.

About you

You have experience with the copyediting process, a keen eye for detail and sharp editorial judgement. You understand how a good story is told. You can get into the mind of your customers to ensure tone and language is appropriate and engaging. You enjoy mentoring junior staffers and freelancers and helping them learn the “why” behind your edits. You are comfortable with managing all daily publishing activities and making sure deadlines are met. You love to learn and can’t wait to share your knowledge with others. You are mentally copyediting this role description as you read it.

About the job

The content you manage will make it easier for our Commercial Real Estate (CRE) customers to stay on top of the latest industry news and research and will ensure we are publishing daily updates that meet their needs.

Daily: Every day will be fast-paced, and you can expect to work on a range of projects and tasks with the Editor-in-Chief, Content Strategist, Content Producer, and other members of the Marketing team. You will manage all daily editorial operations, including scheduling articles and copyediting all Daily Market Updates, News, Learning, Events and freelance contributions. You’ll work closely with the Web Content Producer to ensure all content is published on time and meets editorial standards.

Weekly: Continuously refine editorial processes to increase efficiency, content quality and adapt to user needs; cultivate freelance writers with expertise covering CRE topics.

Quarterly: Review the recommendations made by the Content Strategist after each quarterly content audit has been performed; collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief and Content Strategist on turning recommendations into an action plan.

Qualifications

During the interview process be prepared to speak to – and share work samples – that demonstrate the following qualifications:

- Have a proven track record of working under tight deadlines and implementing and managing editorial standards, deadlines and quality control

- Experience building a stable of freelance writers; strong CRE industry contacts, including writers, highly desirable

- Encyclopedic knowledge of editorial style guides, including AP Style, and publishing process flows

- Strong writing skills; will need to write headlines, captions, and other supplemental copy as needed

- Consider usability when copyediting; prefer a descriptivist, rather than prescriptivist, approach

- Deep understanding of SEO and content management systems, such as AEM and Drupal; have experience with optimizing content to improve findability and accessibility

- Ability to use all standard software tools and, more importantly, the ability to learn new ones

- Proactive idea-generator and problem solver

- Demonstrated flexibility – able to shift strategies and tactics when required

- Bachelor’s Degree required

- More than five years of full-time editing experience for digital publications, with at least two years in a daily editorial management role
