As a part of our Technology organization, our Revenue Management Analytics and Platform teams strive to be the voice of the customer in the decisions Groupon makes. We develop and use cutting-edge data technologies and data science algorithms to sift through large amounts of data and distill it into information about our customers' wants and needs. We then integrate these insights into our automated decision-making systems to constantly improve our services.

 

As a Business Intelligence Engineer you will be tasked with improving the data and reporting infrastructure that guides decision-making across Merchandising, Category GMs, and the broader Revenue Management team. You will partner closely with the Analytics team to create data-driven solutions to business problems. The ability to conceptualize and create user-friendly self-service solutions is critical to be successful in this role. Our business is evolving quickly and we need you to think long term, but deliver incrementally.

You’ll spend time on the following:

  • Understand business requirements to translate needs into actionable insights harnessing large and diverse complex data sets  

  • Interpret analysis and experiments, present/ communicate findings to partners across the organization

  • Use machine learning to build models that can address areas like user segmentation, churn, affinity, and conversion rates

  • Work with product and service teams to identify questions and issues for big data analysis and experimentation

 

​We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent with substantial big data, data warehousing, analytics, and report development experience

  • 4+ years of work experience with a heavy emphasis on data mining and creating data visualization, e-commerce background is a plus

  • 4+ years of experience of SQL programming is required

  • 4+ years of experience with Hive, Hadoop, and Python required

  • Familiarity with MPP systems like Teradata is a plus; Splunk experience is a plus

  • You have an understanding of machine learning/applied math topics, such as probability, statistics models, and optimization techniques, etc.

  • You consider yourself a budding expert in SQL, Python/R, Tableau

  • You have an understanding of data warehousing concepts and ability to build and work with data from different sources efficiently

  • You have hands-on experience with A/B experimentation design and evaluation
