We are searching for a Data Architect to join our rapidly growing team in our Chicago office. This role will report to the VP of Engineering. The Data Architect is responsible for envisioning the overall data design that will serve our systems and applications into the future. The right candidate will enjoy solving difficult and novel problems and will be an excellent leader and communicator to ensure the company stands out as a data company. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead, prioritize, and develop the overall data architecture approach for the organization, including warehousing, database architecture, ETL pipelines, data modeling, data governance, data quality, query efficiency, data security, and performance planning and tuning. 

  • Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to align data strategy and architecture with business strategy and goals. 

  • Research, recommend, and introduce new data technologies consistent with objectives of the company. 

  • Ensure consistency of data systems, tools, and architectural best practices across the organization. 

  • Contribute to and drive the data governance across the enterprise. 

  • Drive data quality through architectural design and best practices. 

  • Prototype new solutions and approaches and enable business cases through proofs of concept. 

  • Create high-level data architectural specifications and design documents. 

  • Provide development teams with architectural blueprints to follow. 

  • Guide and assist development teams throughout construction and implementation. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with coding or design. 

  • Mentor and grow data skills within the Technology organization. 

  • Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. 

  • Represent a long-term perspective on our technical landscape. 

  • Provide ongoing, transparent communication with a focus on expectations fostering trust with internal stakeholders and external partners. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • 7+ years of extensive hands-on experience in end-to-end architecting, configuring, implementing, and administering databases and data warehouse solutions. 

  • Minimum of 10 years of overall related experience. 

  • Bachelor’s level education or higher in computer science, information technology, or related field. 

  • Hands-on experience developing proofs of concepts, prototypes, and business cases. 

  • Experience working in a global team. 

  • Position requires flexibility to work outside of non-traditional business hours as required to perform job duties 

  • Production experience running applications at scale on a cloud platform. 

  • Proficiency with data analytics, visualization tools, and collaboration tools. 

  • Strong experience implementing continuous integration, continuous deployment, automated testing, and performance testing for data. 

  • Strong conceptual, strategic thinking, problem solving, technical, and analytical skills. 

  • Understanding of the IoT domain. 

  • Experience with the following technology concepts: 

  • Data warehousing and data engineering 

  • Database design (e. g. Azure hosted SQL server, CosmosDB, Postgres) 

  • Data modeling and stored procedures 

  • Experience with structured, unstructured, relational, and transactional data (e. g. Blob storage) 

  • Scalable data architectures 

  • Graph databases and models (e. g. Neo4J) 

  • Big Data tools and concepts in the cloud 

  • Experience with time series data and streaming data (e. g. Timescale) 

  • Query tuning and optimization 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Relevant industry experience. 

  • Graduate level education in computer science, information technology, or related field. 

  • Experience with BAS and BMS systems. 

  • Experience in the Real Estate industry. 

  • Strong understanding of Agile development processes. 

  • Early stage startup experience.
