Data Content Researcher, Strategy and Innovation

Morningstar’s Research group provides independent analysis on individual securities, managed investments, portfolios, and markets. The group also collects and maintains high-quality data on the equities, managed investments, and fixed-income investments we cover in our database, one of the largest investment databases in the world. Morningstar is one of the largest independent sources of manager, equity, and credit research in the world. We transform data into insights that investors can use to reach their financial goals.
The Role
The Data Content Researcher within Morningstar’s Strategy and Innovation team is an action-oriented individual, motivated by high goals and possessing an entrepreneurial mind-set. They drive innovation and collaborate across the company to define and execute upon Morningstar’s unique value proposition in response to industry trends. They work diligently in opaque data spaces to create transparency. They will work with client solutions leaders, product managers, technology squads, data consultants, and clients to continually expand our data expertise, data offering, and our processes. The Data Content Researcher will research new data opportunities as well as ensure that new data and analytics are being deployed globally and consistently. This role is located in Chicago or Toronto.
Responsibilities
Proactively drive new data initiatives through research, documentation, implementation, and communication of new data and methodologies.
Engage with industry bodies and clients to proactively research and recommend new content.
Bring research to life by partnering with Morningstar’s Research team to transform standalone research pieces into central data driven solutions.
Serve as the subject matter expert in complex data discussions, both internal and external.
Provide a vital junction between Research, Technology, and Product teams to ensure successful implementation of data projects.
Work with local Data Consultants and relevant regional teams to balance global standards with regional needs.
Qualifications
Minimum of three years of experience in financial services or investing.
Minimum of three years of research and/or product development experience.
Demonstrated ability to utilize data to draw insights and propose solutions.
Demonstrated ability to work across global stakeholders to translate client needs into solutions.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of management across the organization.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality regarding new IP with external parties.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with excellent academic credentials.
Nice to Have
Experience utilizing LEAN, Six Sigma, or Agile methodologies in a project management or data operations setting.
Experience with SQL, Python, or other basic programming skills.
Knowledge of Morningstar Data.
