Director, Models & Institutional Investments
The Role: The Managed Investment Data team seeks an enthusiastic, outcome-oriented Director to build innovative data-driven solutions. The Director will advance our capabilities for institutional managed investments, including model portfolios and separately managed accounts. This person will manage a small team focused on developing data and analytics for institutional managed investments. The Director will support product teams in creating and commercializing innovative functionality and reports that solve customer problems, evangelizing the innovations internally and externally, and delighting our clients by providing them great in-product user and service experience. The preferred location for this position is Chicago, but remote candidates will be considered.
Responsibilities
Conduct market research and provide validated market requirements regarding data, analytics, and workflow needs to our data and software development teams.
Develop data-driven capabilities and analytics for institutional managed investments, such as model portfolios and separately managed accounts, that are in line with or exceed the market standard for mutual funds. Capabilities include data on underlying securities, peer-based and portfolio-level analytics, and software functionality and tools.
Identify opportunities for Morningstar to own/acquire additional institutional managed investment data and analytic assets.
Manage a team of professionals to design and develop database systems; build and develop team of subject matter experts.
Work with software product and solutions managers from across the organization, as partners, to develop a product vision that supports and advances their business goals.
Supports sales effort and meets prospects when called upon to provide answers to questions related to data, analytics and functionality.
Act as an escalation point for client issues and product sponsor for client meetings.
Qualifications
Passion for investing and analytics. Harbor a genuine belief in, and acceptance of Morningstar’s core values.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with excellent academic credentials.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in institutional investment consulting, investment research, and/or institutional investing.
Experience launching new products/solutions from the ground up.
Superior business judgement; analytical, planning and decision-making skills; exemplary communication and presentation abilities.
Experience growing and managing teams, directly or indirectly.
Action-oriented, motivated by high goals and possessing an entrepreneurial mind-set.
Demonstrated ability to develop solid internal and external partnerships; and work effectively across different business and functional areas.
Nice to Have
Knowledge of Morningstar Data and Morningstar Direct.
Skills in data processing, data sciences, and statistical analysis.
