Kalderos is looking for talented data engineers to join our Engineering team in our Chicago or Brookfield, WI locations. We’re looking for people who have solid database design backgrounds with 4+ years of practical working experience and are willing to learn rapidly to best serve our clients.

What you’ll bring
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the US and be able to work in Chicago/Milwaukee
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar field
- 4+ years work experience as a Data Engineer in a professional full-time role
- 4+ years database programming/ETL work in Microsoft SQL Server (T-Sql, stored procs, triggers, etc.) (must have)
- 2+ years data modeling – can design complex ERD diagrams – understands different concepts of data modeling and pros and cons (preferred)
- 2+ years experience application programming – developing APIs using C#, .NET or similar technologies. (preferred)
- Managing big data implementations – have worked on various implementations for how to scale vertically and horizontally data implementations that manage millions of records. (preferred)
- 2+ years database Administration – Microsoft SQL server - understand the peculiarities of SQL server database administration – backup, tuning, scaling in Microsoft Azure (nice to have)
- 2+ year database administration – Postgres - understand the peculiarities of SQL server database administration – backup, tuning, scaling. (nice to have)
- 2+ years experience using Citus (nice to have)
- Designing and implementing data solutions for business or consumer websites working with frontend/backend engineers. (nice to have)
- Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka or Event Hubs (nice to have)
- Experience with orchestration frameworks like Azure Data Factory (nice to have)
- Experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industries (nice to have)

Strong communication and collaboration skills are required as we look for people to take on leadership initiatives. We are not a typical Engineering team where people just want to put their heads down and code - but rather a team of engineers who want to actively participate in team and company initiatives not related to technical tasks.

What you’ll be working on
The Data team’s mission at Kalderos is to provide data modeling expertise to internal teams, and build data storage and processing platforms that can scale as Kalderos scales. They can work within the Ledger and Master Data team, the Data Science team, or others as needs arise. Below are some possible day to day tasks for a data engineer at Kalderos.
- Work with product teams to understand and develop data models that can meet requirements and operationalize well
- Build out automated ETL jobs that reliably process large amounts of data, and ensure these jobs runs consistently and well
- Build tools that enable other data engineers to work more efficiently
- Try out new data storage and processing technologies in proof of concepts and make recommendations to the broader team
- Tune existing implementations to run more efficiently as they become bottlenecks, or migrate existing implementations to new paradigms as needed
- Learn and apply knowledge about the drug discount space, and become a subject matter expert for internal teams to draw upon
