Data Engineer 

This is a full-time role in Chicago

SpotOn is a fast-growing Point-of-Sale, marketing, loyalty, sales, and reputation tracking platform that helps customers check in to earn rewards at their favorite local businesses using our web, mobile phone, and tablet products. Business owners can use data generated by these check-ins, as well as sales data, to reach out and connect with their customers, and manage their online reputation, and experience the benefits of loyal, returning customers.

As a data engineer within the reporting and analytics team you will focus building and optimizing the Extract Load and Transform (ELT) processes for SpotOn's data warehouse. This role will also contribute to development of data products and advanced analytics that scale across the company.

Day to Day:

• Develop and scale data pipelines using open source tools and vendor platforms.
• Manage our warehouse platform to scale efficiently.
• Assist in development of dimensional models using Kimball design techniques.
• Deploy your code in the cloud using patterns for container deployment and orchestration.
• Meet with key stakeholders on the application development and analytics teams to gather requirements and provide status updates.
• Provide an opinion on the direction of SpotOn's data initiatives and data infrastructure.
• Technologies you will use: AWS, Postgres, MongoDB, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, Github, Singer, Meltano, Airflow, Kafka, Fivetran, dbt_, Snowflake, Metabase, Tableau

Requirements:

• At least 3 years of experience developing data pipelines on modern, cloud-based products.
• Experience in custom ELT design, implementation, and maintenance (Kafka, Singer/Meltano, Airflow/dbt_/Fivetran, etc.)
• Intermediate to advanced ability in Python
• 3+ years experience in the data warehouse space with basic understanding of data modeling and Kimball design techniques
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in using sophisticated SQL queries and writing/optimizing highly efficient SQL queries
• Communication skills, including the ability to identify and communicate data-driven insights.

Bonus points if you have:

• 1 plus years of experience with Singer and Meltano including the creation of custom taps and targets
• 1 plus years of dbt_ and experience with advanced development and deployment techniques (e.g. jinja, blue/green deployment, test coverage, project tuning, custom package development)
• Experience within the payments industry
• Experience with clickstream data
