Job Description:
The Data Operations Engineer is a technical resource responsible for generating operational insights and driving corrective actions within our digital ecosystem. This includes monitoring pipelines, triage of data quality & performance issues, grief handling, and improving operational metrics for Caterpillar's digital data assets.
Job Duties:
- Competent to perform all necessary data related tasks which could include data analysis, data visualization, operational metadata management, monitoring and technical troubleshooting of data issues.
- Monitor pipeline execution for failures or anomalies, using a variety of tools and methods.
- Identify pipeline errors and data grief, conducting the required troubleshooting and corrective actions to resolve data issues.
- Build and maintain dashboards and visualizations that accurately depict the health of our digital assets.
- Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with overall objectives of Cat Digital.
- Understand and evaluate business requirements that impact the Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers.
- Liaise with data delivery teams to establish metrics, evaluate production readiness, and resolve complex data and pipeline issues.
- Ensure compliance with IT requirements and standards, including IT controls, audits, disaster recovery, etc.
- Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data platform and related systems.
- Maintain existing data quality scorecard measurements, executing of scorecards, resolving exceptions with data owners and source systems.
- Create, update, and enhance operational policies, processes, and tools.
- Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
Basic Requirements:
- A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience
- Experience in data visualization, IT operations or software engineering
- Demonstrated experience with AWS services, Cloud ELT/ETL, and visualization tools (ThoughtSpot, Kibana, Tableau, PowerBI)
Top candidates will also have:
- Experience with data warehousing (Snowflake, Redshift, etc), Linux, SQL and Python
- Experience working in an operations/support role
- Knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, and big data analytics
- Understanding of IT operations, ITSM/ITIL, data governance, metadata management, data quality, and data architecture concepts
- Ability to comprehend conceptual and logical data models, as well as business/transformation rules
- Experience with Object Oriented Concepts/Development/Modeling
- Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where digital is still evolving as a core offering
