Data Quality and Governance Manager

Position Purpose

Data Governance Manager is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the Company’s data management goals, standards, practices, process, and technologies. Communicator that is in charge of organizing and streamlining the process with which data is shared, collected, utilized properly, protected, cleaned, and stored; all the while maintaining efficiency and saving the company from inaccurate data handling, unusable data, and potentially saving time and money by keeping the data consistent with the company’s goals. Data Governance Manager is a key Technical and Non-Technical leader that owns the process of establishing good and transparent communication between IT and Business alike.

Essential Position Functions

Principle Accountability | Team Membership

  • Active member of a data team that solves data quality problems, establishes standards, and enforces them via processes, tools, and properly communicates any standard changes.
  • Assist data steward in defining business requirements of data cleansing, quality and ensuring continued adherence to established principles.
  • Act as a liaison between business users and the data team
  • Act in the interest of the overall team
  • Actively work on broadening knowledge and adding technical skills
  • Seek help only after appropriately attempting to solve a problem

Principle Accountability | Data Quality and Governance Operations

  • Understand concept of MDM and has proven record in establishing or being part of analyzing, and establishing Master Data Management systems.
  • Understand how to engage business, leverage different technical techniques in establishing proper Reference data Mastering concepts with Technical and Non-Technical audience.
  • Identify key data elements in business areas covered by the data warehouse (ODS and DW)
  • Consult with stakeholders when changing data elements, data quality procedures
  • Responsible for data element content, context, and associated business rules
  • Establish and perform data certification process
  • Ensure that data elements have clear and unambiguous definition that apply to their usage across the enterprise
  • Responsible for providing proper procedures for data quality assurance in source system with respect to issues that might occur in data marts/warehouse.
  • Log and monitor the resolution of any issues with data elements
  • Ensure data is used consistently across all data marts
  • Ensure data does not conflict with other data elements in the data dictionary (removes duplicates, overlaps, etc.)
  • Understand data transformations used in the Extraction Transformation Load (ETL) process.
  • Have (or willing to gain) familiarity with tools used for ETL and what types of transformations and data quality rules can be applied using those tools
  • Ability to trace data through multiple systems and processes
  • Ensure data elements have adequate documentation on their appropriate usage
  • Propose data quality initiatives to the data team and business stakeholders
  • Advocate good data quality and increase awareness among data producers and consumers
  • Participate in building and enforcing Data Quality processes to ensure good data quality on enterprise level.
  • Ability to address SOX/Audit requirements in conjunction with Data Management and Quality

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Business Systems or other quantitative field, or equivalent years of experience
  • Proficient in the use of SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio), Query building for data and metadata retrieval.
  • 4-5 years of experience working with Echo and/or equivalent logistics experience highly desirable
  • Data analysis is a must.
  • Proven track record (4-6 years) working in fast-paced, time sensitive projects that require:
    • Clear and timely communication of key information deemed critical to project success
    • Organizational skills required to balance risk and priorities
    • Familiarity with Scrum/Agile methodologies required
    • Advanced communication and conflict resolution skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and ability to effectively work with business leaders at all levels.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office productivity suite applications (I.E. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
