What is the AARC@606?
Discover’s business strategy starts with analytics and data. Our analytics roles provide quantitative and qualitative analysis for the development of new or existing strategies, models, products, and improving programs or systems. We help drive high-quality, fact-based decisions by providing critical insights into consumer, product and behavioral data. These roles also play a significant role for leveraging AI/ML in automated decisioning systems to mitigate fraud and other risks, increase marketing performance, and improve customer interactions. At Discover, we leverage data and analytics throughout the product and customer lifecycles to improve our products, strategies, processes, and capabilities.
The Analytics Acceleration Resource Center, AARC@606, is Discover’s latest investment in advancing analytical capability and careers. We operate with speed and agility, maintain governance and standards, and leverage both technical and business expertise. Team members may work independently, or as an integral part of a project team, to develop predictive models, conduct simulations, perform ad-hoc analyses, design and produce analytic reports to solve business problems. These roles may support one or more specific business functions, including product development, marketing, credit risk management, fraud mitigation, AML/BSA, customer service and infrastructure development to drive value through intelligent decisioning processes as well as insights.

The analytics development program at the AARC@606 is designed to accelerate learning and career development of participants. Our goal is to enable passionate, motivated, curious, and solutions-oriented professionals and give them the training, resources, skills, and experiences to create value for the business while advancing their careers.
As part of the program, participants will:
- Work alongside experienced technical managers and contribute to challenging and meaningful assignments across Discover, ranging from consumer banking, credit risk management, AML/BSA, fraud mitigation, customer service, etc.
- Participate in a structured learning curriculum and training to increase development and impact
- Develop cross-functional industry and market knowledge, along with technical and leadership skills
- Receive ongoing feedback and coaching from project leads, performance managers, and a dedicated program management team
- Engage with other participants as a cohort to expand knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional network
- Explore various career pathways in analytics, modeling, and data engineering
- Advance to a business area team within 12-24 months
Job Responsibilities
As a Data Science Modeler, you will:
- Responsible for development of predictive models to support Discover business partners
- Design and develop models utilizing Machine learning and other algorithms
- Present the results of mathematical modeling and data analysis to management or other end users
- Research and leverage state of the art modeling techniques; participate in modeling innovation
- Leverage extensive, deep technical knowledge and leadership skills to drive the development of data science solutions and implement data driven recommendations and outcomes
- Maintain a high level of competency in statistical and analytical principles, tools and techniques
- Quickly adapt to modern modeling techniques
- Demonstrate knowledge in analytical tools and accumulate business and data domain knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Communication, Statistics, Mathematics, Management Science, Economics, Econometrics, Operational Research, etc.
- 0-2 years of work experience in Data Science, Analytics (Data or Business) or related field
- Ability in learning and improving programming skills for business analysis, strong programming (SQL, Python, Machine Learning) skills
- Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and follow through on completion of high-profile projects
- Strong interest in using data for business insight, experience in modeling
- Strong desire of learning and willingness to acquire needed knowledge and skills
- Positive attitude, willingness to collaborate, strong work ethic, and demonstrated personal initiative
