Position Overview:

 

The Database Administrator is self-driven, passionate about technology, leads efforts in establishing best practices for Relational, Non-Relational, and Cloud database management systems. Contributes to the design and management of Echo’s database systems while supporting the strategic architectural vision of quality, scalability, performance and function. Enjoys researching technologies, techniques and methodologies to produce effective, complete and reliable solutions. Appreciates collaboration with other teams and is a team player, team first attitude. Our proprietary software is created with the goal to simplify transportation for our customers and carriers, and is one of our largest competitive advantages in an ever growing market

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitors database environments and acts to improve processes, database security, performance and availability.

  • Provides, develops, document, and implement recommendations and solutions for system improvements, optimization, automation, security, high-availability, disaster recovery, data retention, and capacity utilization.

  • Database design and specifications, creation and configuration, query tuning, code migration, disk space management, backup/recovery, monitoring and maintenance.

  • Identifies and owns risks and resolves issues effectively.

  • Supports and is accountable for timely production releases and adherence to release activities

  • Ability to manage change and effectively test fixes and enhancements and adhere to SDLC

  • Driven to research database trends, technologies and acts to improve database systems, processes and customer’s experiences

 

 

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • 3-5 years hands-on experience with SQL Server Database Administration 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, TSQL, SSIS and SSRS.

  • Good understanding of Windows Server, Clustering, Virtual and SAN technologies.

  • Strong understanding of SQL Always-On-Availability Groups, Partitioning, Data Encryption, SQL Replication and In-Memory.

  • Proficient in SQL Server DBMS security best practices and implementation.

  • Adept at creating stored procedures, views, user-defined functions, table functions and maintenance plans.

  • 3rd Party monitoring tools, including Idera SQLDM, Solar Winds Ignite, SCOM, and others

  • PowerShell or other scripting language.

  •  

Required Skills:

 

  • Applied knowledge with Cloud technologies and integrations specific to AWS.

  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written along with solid technical negotiation abilities.

  • Customer focus and value driven.

  • Take ownership of his/her responsibilities through completion.

  • Candidate must possess strong problem solving and debugging skills.

  • Capable of Multi-tasking and managing Business prioritization.

  • Team player, team first attitude.

  • Must be able to work in a multiple team environment. Working with peers, application development, operations, and management.

  • The individual will be assigned on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis, which requires work after normal business hours.

  • Understanding of Scrum/Agile methodologies is preferred.

 

 

Work environment/physical demands summary:

 

This job operates in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office with an open seating floor plan. The employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear.
