The Role

Our Database Architect will be instrumental to Braviant’s success by individually contributing to and leading a team that designs and implements Braviant’s online transaction processing database (OLTP). A successful Database Architect will be leading a team of database engineers from requirement analysis through production deployment enabling the growth of our online lending applications. The Database Architect will be working collaboratively with our product, data, and software engineering teams on designs and implementations to grow our business while reporting directly to the Chief Architect.

What you'll be doing:

  • Working with our product team to understand business requirements as they relate to our OLTP database.
  • Collaborate with the other application architects to design and develop solutions that meet the business requirements.
  • Lead a team of database developers to ensure on-time delivery of designs and implementations as well as production support after deployment
  • Develop a strategy for long-term growth of our online databases to meet the ever-growing needs of the business
  • Analyze and assess existing platforms for maintainability, reliability, scalability, and performance. Help define improvements for existing solutions.
  • Define and implement a database development lifecycle consistent with industry best practices like design, design reviews, code, code reviews, etc.

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years experience in database design and development.
  • 4+ years working with relational databases.
  • Strong Knowledge of database procedural language plpgsql for Postgres and proficiency in writing functions, procedures and triggers.
  • 2+ Years Amazon Web Services (AWS) experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.

What makes you stand out:

  • Knowledge of Postgres internals, including Postgres catalog tables with experience creating utilities based on catalog tables.
  • Optimization experience, including an understanding of differences in optimization for OLTP/OLAP.
  • Experience using foreign data wrappers (FDW) in Postgres.
  • Experience with Git (GitHub & Bitbucket), Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience architecting data solutions in AWS.
  • Experience with writing complex SQL queries and query optimization.

Location

Our company is located in the heart of downtown with great access to public transportation (both Metra & CTA), coffee shops, and restaurants. Currently our teams are working remotely for the foreseeable future.
