Job Summary

The Director, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Architect position in the Enterprise Architecture group will drive AI strategy and lead architectural design of scalable AI/ML solutions to empower business insurance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

1. Lead multiple teams in building AI roadmaps and solutions to meet business goals. Deep understanding of business and product strategies and objectives.
2. Influences decisions on AI related technology, features, time & budget estimates, and test strategies.
3. Guide and govern enterprise AI/ML architecture. Defines and documents conceptual architecture. Captures and documents non-functional requirements, and defines technical requirements for large proposals.
4. Define operational framework for machine learning and deep learning platforms.
5. Guide and train business units to speed up AI/ML adoption. Research and evaluate new emerging technologies to improve operational effectiveness, reduce risk, and increase speed to market. Keep up with innovations across industry to ensure components can be replaced with well-suited alternatives.
6. Provide integrated system planning. Work across IT and business units to strategically rationalize applications. Recommend technologies that will enhance current systems and support overall corporate objective.
7. Provide consultation to business and IT management to ensure applications and systems follow established standards, procedures and methodologies.
8. Leads and facilitates other Enterprise Architecture Functions, including Technology Awareness Days, Technology Trend Research, etc.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship
Typically AVP or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Expert in architecting and leading AI/ML initiatives in the current or past organizations, coupled with deep understanding of the complexity of productizing AI/ML applications.

2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, peers, and IT management. Must be able to clearly communicate complex technical and business concepts both to business partners and team members.

3. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Familiar with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, R, SQL, Spark, or Java.

4. Strong ability to thrive on ambiguity. Impeccable attention to detail and strong ability to convert complex data into insights and action plans.

5. Solid understanding of technology and business trends that allows architecture to solve problems in a creative and cost effective manner.

6. Solid understanding of foundational statistics concepts and algorithms. Operational knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms.

7. Solid on the system development life cycle, technological alternatives, and architecture methodologies for multi-platform environments.

8. Strategic thinker. Must be able to influence senior level leaders regarding the impact of AI/ML to the business.

9. Working knowledge of systems architectural concepts and frameworks like TOGAF preferred.

Education & Experience

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree preferred in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Computational Statistics, Operations Research, Machine Learning or related technical field or equivalent.

2. A minimum of 10 years work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 8 years work experience with a Master’s degree in related fields.

 

 

3. Proven experience in the following:

  • Leadership experience in information technology. Experience driving for results across cross-functional teams while maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Experience building complex systems that leverage various machine learning algorithms or technologies that integrate well with other organization-wide systems.
  • Experience in projects involving large scale databases complex business requirements and cross-functional teams.

4. Preferred experience in the following:

  • Experience working in a cloud environment (AWS Azure and GCP) preferred.
  • Experience in deep learning NLP computer vision and conversational AI preferred
