Head of Research Data Management

What you will do:

• Lead the DRW Research Data Management strategy, roadmap, and overall organization
• Assemble an inventory of licensed and public data sources that within the organization to build a data catalog for future research uses
• Collect and organize the various existing data sources into a centralized data repository / data warehouse that has proper access controls for data license compliance and usage tracking
• Build an organization focused on delivering a world-class research data platform, including hiring data content specialists, engineers, data modelers, data quality specialists, and data operations specialists
• Partner/liaise with various trading teams focusing on different geographies, asset classes, and trading styles to ensure proper coverage/management of key data sources for their research and analysis
• Establish overall data governance framework for all firmwide research data
• Improve how DRW collects, organizes, manages, and publishes data across the various trading groups
• Develop various methods of accessing sources of data to satisfy various use cases by different trading teams
• Establish an overall computational research platform to satisfy the demands of big data research exercises to identify new trading opportunities
• Design and develop a Trading Data Research Portal to centralize access to the tools and resources needed by DRW’s various trading teams and give the appearance of centralized repositories, regardless of actual storage of raw data sources
• Partner with trading teams to assist with evaluating and acquiring new data sources for researching future trading opportunities across market data, fundamental data, alternate data sources. Optimize procurement process as it relates to licensing content and data sources.
• Assemble optimal method of organizing and making available internal derived data sets for various trading teams and risk management team’s use
• Ensure overall data repository is available, reliable, accessible, secure, and updated in a timely manner to ensure the most current data is being used for analysis

 What you will need:

• Prior experience with financial data sets, specifically as they are used for trading/investing research
• Strong understanding of financial markets, including exchange-based and OTC
• Prior technical expertise and experience managing various aspects of data challenges:
  • Enterprise-wide Data Warehouses and Big Data management approaches
  • Financial Data Modeling
  • Data mining
  • ETL vs. ELT techniques
  • Parallel computational platforms
  • Optimal data storage methodologies
  • Understanding of optimal use of columnar versus row-based data storage methods
  • Data quality and cleansing techniques
  • Continuous Integration
  • Software release management
  • Operational excellence with respect to data operations management
• Familiarity with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence fields
• Strong leadership, inter-personal communication, and relationship management skills
• Strong technical leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, lead, and develop technical personnel including software engineers and data scientists
