Our Data Management team is tasked with building and supporting the business analytics infrastructure at Upwork that analysts and partners use every day to make critical business decisions. We are looking for a passionate engineer who has a love of data and analytics to empower our Sales, Finance, and Enterprise teams in using data to drive and measure impact. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end analytics solution partnering with data infrastructure product and engineering to develop and operate the complete solution. You will have an instrumental role in ensuring that our analysts, business partners, and executive team have consistent and reliable data and insights at their fingertips.

 Your Responsibilities:

• Build maintainable and scalable data processing pipelines in PostgreSQL/Snowflake, Python, and other data processing language in the data platform running in AWS

• Operate and optimize the existing data pipelines that meet the data delivery and data quality service level agreement

• Work with product engineering team to influence source system data models and data collection and instrumentation for data consumers need across the company

• Develop the data processing technical strategy and be accountable for the execution roadmap

• Manage a team of engineers in various time zones and countries (we have a strong team of freelancers from different countries!)

• Work with business partners and product managers to define data model as well as design scalable solution that meets analytics and data science need.

• Perform SaaS vendor evaluations and design a scalable and manageable integration

What it takes to catch our eye:

• Demonstrated ability working in a data centric environment and be proficient in agile/scrum delivery model.

• Proven track record of leading multiple work streams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment and partnering with multiple business partners

• Ability to handle high ambiguity use cases and set a clear direction and guide your team to solve for complex problem domains.

• Deep understanding of data structures and data architecture with experience with microservices design, data modeling and management approaches

• Strong analytical attitude with natural curiosity toward data, business processes, and highly effective in presenting complex analysis.

• A proven record of taking large data projects from conceptualization to implementation

• Expert working with high volume, heterogeneous data using advanced SQL and optimization

• Solid experience in designing and building dimensional data models to improve data quality, accessibility, and usability

• Background in finance preferred
