Linguist- Contextual Knowledge Associate Engineer

As a Contextual Knowledge Engineer you will work on our proprietary platform for text understanding and analytics. As a member of the Data Science team you will contribute to cutting-edge technologies that help protect advertisers from being linked to unsavory content found all over the internet by classifying online material as brand-unsafe, across channels and formats: open web, mobile apps, walled gardens, video.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious, dedicated, detail-oriented with a strong desire to work with awesome people in a highly collaborative environment. You should be able to not take yourself too seriously as well.
What you’ll do:
- Carry out linguistic analyses of text documents in order to help computer algorithms understand their meaning
- Work with editorial tools to classify web pages and mobile apps into content categories (brand-unsafe topics like “Hate speech” or subject categories like “Sports” or “Finance”)
- Analyze advertising log data to detect patterns and provide qualitative analyses
- Have a lot of fun with the two fundamental problems of natural language processing: ambiguity and linguistic variation
Who you are and what you have:
- 0-1 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, philosophy, library and information studies, human computing interaction, psychology, or other social science or liberal arts field
- Experience with language technology and quantitative approaches to the study of language
- Basic level of technical knowledge, such as introductory coursework or self-study in computer programming, statistics, data science, or similar field
- Experience working with specialized programs such as annotation software or search applications.
- Some familiarity with formal logic
- Good understanding of regular expressions
- Ability to communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing
What puts you over the top:
- Knowledge of content management best practices
- Experience in creating and managing taxonomies
- Experience working with specialized programs such as annotation software or search applications.
