Hey! We’re Grubhub

We’re all about connecting hungry diners with our network of over 300,000 restaurants nationwide. Innovative technology, user-friendly platforms and streamlined delivery capabilities set us apart and make us an industry leader in the world of online food ordering. When you join our team, you become part of a community that works together to innovate, solve problems, grow, work hard and have a ton of fun in the process!

Why Work For Us

Grubhub is a place where authentically fun culture meets innovation and teamwork. We believe in empowering people and opening doors for new opportunities. If you’re looking for a place that values strong relationships, embraces diverse ideas–all while having fun together–Grubhub is the place for you!

The Impact You Will Make

The Grubhub Market Research team is a well balanced mix of qualitative and quantitative researchers who are passionate about understanding people’s needs, behaviors and attitudes. The team helps Grubhub maintain understanding of diners, restaurants and delivery partners and their experiences across the Grubhub brand which include product, customer service, ongoing engagement, and other important touchpoints.

The Manager will work closely with the Sr. Manager and will be asked to champion the Market Research function at Grubhub across many cross functional teams. This role should be filled by someone who considers themselves as a thought leader, a subject matter expert, and a “doer” when it comes to market research.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute all aspects of the research process with excellence--writing proposals, designing studies, hypothesizing and analytic planning, synthesizing data and analytics, creating insights and narratives that drive actionable recommendations and presenting results to client teams and high level stakeholders including C-suite executives
  • Develop a thorough, research-based understanding of the basic needs and attitudes from Diners, Restaurants, and Delivery Partners and identify opportunities to improve product offerings for all
  • People management of  junior team members while also serving as a mentor/educator to promote growth of team members
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contract workers on an as needed basis
  • Partner with business leaders across the organization to identify and translate business needs into an actionable research agenda and develop a deep understanding of business initiatives to synthesize research results with explanatory drivers.  Top candidates should be able to link our business decisions with observed impact to tell the story.
  • Inform business decisions by communicating clear and actionable recommendations based on research to stakeholders including marketing, operations, product, and finance
  • Provide input and leadership on Grubhub’s brand strategy; help create clear and compelling brand communications based on consumer insights
  • Assists in managing annual and quarterly planning process, including budgets and headcount planning

What You Bring to the Table

  • Exceptional research skills with a variety of marketing research methods, including quantitative methods such as MaxDiff, conjoint, discrete choice, and brand tracking; and qualitative methods including 1:1 interviews, focus groups, diary studies, and ethnography
  • Must have a successful track record of executing multiple concurrent marketing research projects from start to finish -- we’re looking for someone who likes to get involved with the project in a hands-on way rather than simply managing the process and the ability to toggle between projects
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a broader team
  • Subject matter expert in both quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Comfortable working in matrixed organizations
  • High analytic aptitude--comfortable with understanding and communicating the results of advanced analytics and data analyses
  • Knowledge of statistics and advanced analytic methods is a plus (e.g. regression, factor analysis, correspondence analysis)
  • Strong experience with analytic software packages such as SPSS, SAS, R, etc.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • At least 7 years of primary marketing research experience (agency or client side), experience with fast moving tech companies preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience managing and developing high-performing teams
