Job Description

Raise Data Scientists are a critical component of the cross-functional squads that make up the Raise Technology organization, reporting directly to the Director of Analytics/Analytics Manager. As a Principal Data Scientist at Raise, you are responsible for creating, testing and maintaining data products with a given Technology Squad. For example, you may develop and support models that provide recommendations, assess risk, and/or forecast finances. In addition, you will serve the team by providing expertise in data collection, experiment design, and interpretation of statistics. While working with your squad of designers, engineers and product managers, you will contribute by building and testing the features that drive incremental value in our products.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments for product initiatives and perform statistical analysis of the results with recommendations for next steps and future experiments
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns from historical data, generate and test hypotheses, and provide product owners with actionable insights
  • Utilize machine learning, natural language processing, and statistical techniques such collaborative filtering, association rules, regression, inference, and cross validation to improve Raise products
  • Research and investigate possible options to streamline operational performance and drive marketing campaigns using data and automation
  • Communicate research, progress and results to non-technical stakeholders using reports, dashboards, and presentations
  • Educate and lead the Raise community towards analytical excellence with storytelling, lightning talks, and training sessions

Skills & Qualifications

  • Statistics and probability:
    • Experience building probabilistic models, simulations, and other computational techniques to run statistical analyses
    • Solid understanding of core fundamentals of frequentist statistics, including the Central Limit Theorem, Law of Large Numbers and interpretation of regression results
  • Experiment design:
    • Deep understanding of A/B testing and control vs. variation
    • Experience with factorial experiment design, multivariate experiments, random sampling vs stratified sampling and oversampling techniques
  • Predictive Analytics:
    • Previous experience using clustering, regression, and classification techniques to model business decisions
    • Exposure to time series techniques such as ARIMA or Exponential Smoothing
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for orchestration, data manipulation as well as building data product prototype (Shiny)
  • SQL experience - Experience in transactional and data warehouse environments using MySQL, PostgreSQL, Google BigQuery, or other database systems
