Job Description
TITLE: Principal Database Engineer
DUTIES: DFS Corporate Services LLC seeks Principal Database Engineer in Riverwoods, IL to manage and maintain all production and non-production databases. Responsible for standards and design of physical data storage, maintenance, access and security administration. Perform backup and recovery on Database Systems, configure database parameters to meet or exceed business requirements. Optimize database access and allocate/re-allocate database resources for optimum configuration, database performance and cost. Support multiple services and multiple databases of medium to high complexity (complexity defined by database size, technology used, systems feeds and interfaces) with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity and accessibility of data. Work on multiple projects as a project leader or project advisor. May coach more junior technical staff. Monitor the database system hardware/software for performance degradation, connectivity issues, system events and alerts. Update and manages tickets through resolution with vendors and internal support groups. Test, analyze, perform corrective actions and restore availability and services in a timely and accurate manner to eliminate/reduce application impact. Provide timely notifications to management/outage team and escalate tickets to appropriate internal and external management as needed. Plan and perform scheduled changes (patching, maintenance, deployment, decommission, configuration, performance tuning) for all hardware and software used to support the database infrastructure. Provide consultative services to infrastructure and application teams regarding project work, POCs and/or troubleshooting exercises. Research and implement new technologies to enhance/grow existing database infrastructure. Participate in pager rotation to provide 24x7 support for all database system environments (Prod, Test, and Development). Promote a risk-aware culture to ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in job offered or related occupation: conducting Teradata, Snowflake, AWS Redshift, AWS RDS and Neo4J database engineering and administration activities; handling performance management and tuning activities; designing database Workload Management rules, troubleshooting Protegrity issues; troubleshooting backup related NetBackup issues; programming using SQL and PL/SQL; developing Stored Procedures, Python, Shell Scripting, Terraform, and Jenkins scripting languages scripts; using Tableau, SQL WorkBench, Snow SQL, MultiLoad, and FastLoad database tools; designing and implementing AWS Cloud services; executing IT service management and vendor management activities.
