ABOUT THE ROLE

The ShopRunner Analytics team drives insights into every aspect of our business and supports a wide variety of organizational stakeholders. The Senior ETL Developer role will be a critical member of the ShopRunner Analytics team, working directly with stakeholders, managing deliverables, and executing multiple concurrent projects in our fast-paced work environment with minimal supervision.

We are looking for a curious and enthusiastic Senior ETL Developer with great communication skills to join our lean and agile team.  You should be comfortable with ambiguity, have experience drilling into data issues and translating data stories between technical and business audiences, and have some expertise with data engineering. This Senior ETL Developer reports to the Director, Analytics Data Architect and will collaborate with a broad cross-functional team. This role will be remote through 2021, but the ideal candidate will be able to come to our Chicago HQ occasionally in 2022.  Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not being offered for this role.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will be the technical administrator of our BI tool, Looker. In this capacity you will:

  • Provide ongoing Administrative support of SR BI environment including installs, upgrades, administration, and operations
  • Enhance BI environment through continuous improvement following standards and best practices
  • Guide the Analytics team and others to maintain an optimal BI environment
  • Consult with end users to gather and clarify data and reporting needs for complex business intelligence solutions, assists users with use of BI applications to drive business value, aid in development of new or updated BI Dashboards, Reports, etc.

Additionally, you will be an integral part of developing the ShopRunner analytical data infrastructure.  This will include working on ETL, data management, and data quality efforts. 

  • Develop extract, transform and load (ETL) procedures; this includes ongoing modification and maintenance of those procedures, validating, and implementing data cleanup procedures,
  • Develop and maintain data management standards, and documentation of current data sources, raw data, transformations, and report specifications
  • Assist in defining, validating, and implementing data cleanup procedures, transformations, scripts, and execution of test plans for loading data successfully
  • Understand how our ecommerce transaction and clickstream data is produced, and use technical tools to validate implementations and analyze resulting datasets
  • Build processes to automatically monitor and alert stakeholders to data quality and business performance issues, and work with Data Engineering to identify and resolve tracking issues.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of experience as a data analyst in a consumer-facing company
  • BS in a relevant technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics or relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of database principles and data visualization concepts
  • Expert in problem solving, testing, debugging and troubleshooting
  • Hands on experience writing SQL, as well as optimizing SQL to improve the performance of reports and ETL procedures
  • Hands-on experience with BI Reporting, Dashboard development tools, and OLAP environments (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Power BI or Qlikview)
  • Experience with change management related to BI objects
  • Experience with translating business requirements into technical requirements with a mindset of data movement and data reporting
  • Comfortable working with messy, non-standardized or unstructured data
  • Track record of independently owning and proactively driving projects
  • Excited to tackle ambiguous business problems in a fast-paced startup culture

Nice to have:

  • Experience working as part of a cross-functional team
  • Experience understanding performance and tuning impacts
  • Familiarity with cloud solutions
  • Experience managing automated processes to analyze, merge, and monitor datasets (e.g. using Python or R)
  • Familiarity with a variety of data creation and transmission systems such as  eCommerce, click stream, email / marketing, 3rd party data integrations, etc.
