The role:

Braviant’s direct mail operation mails 51 weeks per year amounting to tens of millions of letters annually. We achieve this scale by leveraging machine learning and a test first strategy in our selection process. We are looking for a talented Senior Data Scientist to be responsible for building and running Braviant's direct mail modeling selection process and new marketing channel modeling as we continue to expand our customer acquisition engine.

 

In this role, you will collaborate with the Marketing team and P&L leader to influence and implement business objectives into our marketing efforts and maintain the analysis and infrastructure built around it. A successful Senior Data Scientist will be excited to take on this hands-on, technically challenging role, and will be passionate about problem solving through data in our fluid start up environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will create the list of customers whom we are targeting in our marketing campaigns (selection process) by building predictive models which score universes of potential customers, running the analysis to define the strategies we use when selecting customers, and maintaining the infrastructure to test and learn as we evolve our acquisition strategy
  • You will be responsible for the development, validation, maintenance, optimization, and monitoring of selection models and strategies to support ongoing optimization of return on marketing spend
  • You will analyze current business performance to build descriptive and predictive models to improve results
  • You will develop subject matter expertise for current and future new customer acquisition channels
  • You will partner with Marketing, Finance, Product, Operations and Tech to influence the key marketing initiatives
  • You will leverage machine learning to grow and optimize Direct Mail, Digital and other new customer acquisition channels
  • You will collaborate with Marketing, Product and Business Intelligence teams to define and monitor critical marketing KPIs
  • You will generate proactive insights and perform ad hoc analysis to support data-driven strategies and help identify and execute on new opportunities for profitable growth
  • You will collaborate with Product and Technology teams to build on the existing Analytics infrastructure to support continuous testing / optimization and streamlined implementation of new marketing models and strategies
  • You will coach junior analytics team members

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years relevant work experience in an analytical/ quantitative role
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a quantitative discipline (e.g., mathematics, statistics, operations research, quantitative finance, physics, engineering, computer science). Candidates with advanced degrees and less experience will also be considered
  • Expert proficiency in the tools used for data manipulation and statistical analysis e.g. Python/SQL
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of machine learning techniques, and the ability to speak to their tradeoffs, very strong in xg boost and light gbm
  • Passion for keeping skills up to date and exploring new methodologies
  • Curiosity to understand how things currently work and the dedication to figure out how they should work

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience in any of the following: marketing mix and attribution models, targeting/segmentation, direct mail, digital marketing, optimization, and lifetime value analysis
  • Unsecured consumer lending experience
  • Knowledge of optimization, stochastic processes, design of experiments and bootstrapping
  • Experience with Apache Spark

Location

Our company is located in the heart of downtown with great access to public transportation (both Metra & CTA), coffee shops, and restaurants. Currently our teams are working remotely for the foreseeable future.
