ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Data Scientist at ShopRunner, you will be digging into our extensive store of cross-market e-commerce data in order to create predictive models that help push our business forward. Working with other teams throughout the business, our team is pushing the limits of what our data can do, driving us to find more effective ways to serve our merchants and the customers who use our platform. A collaborator through and through, you will work to help define data pipelines for both batch and real-time models.

ABOUT OUR DATA SCIENCE TEAM

We use deep learning and other advanced techniques to build machine learning models that make a difference for ShopRunner’s business. For instance:   

• We provide personalized recommendations on shoprunner.com and in emails.
• We enrich ShopRunner’s product catalog with category and attribute information. Our category model alone has saved the company over $300k in manual labeling costs to date.
• We give back to the data science community by open-sourcing valuable tools (https://github.com/search?q=topic%3Adatascience+org%3AShopRunner&type=Repositories).
• As part of FedEx DataWorks, we have opportunities to help a Fortune 50 company operate more efficiently.
• We have a culture of collaboration and learning, including practices such as weekly team lunches, biweekly journal clubs, and occasional “swarm” meetings to talk through thorny problems together.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Develop machine learning models that automate processes and provide personalized experiences for our members, including researching various possible approaches as appropriate.
• Deploy and maintain APIs that host those models, collaborating with engineers on product teams to ensure that our services meet their needs.
• Work with product leaders to uncover new opportunities to use machine learning to improve ShopRunner’s business, often developing POC’s and prototypes.
  
  

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelors degree along with 3+ years experience as a Data Scientist, working closely within a business to give actionable insights
  
• You have strong experience with various Python data science libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, SciPy, and NumPy, or the equivalent ecosystem in another language
• You like working collaboratively with folks who have different experiences than you do
• You like learning about new technologies and are willing to share what you learn back to the team
• You can explain your work in a way that non-technical stakeholders can understand
• You like working with a team of goofy people that enjoy each other and like to have fun at work
• You are comfortable working in a fast paced startup-like environment where company priorities may shift
