The Services, Distribution, and Digital (SD&D) Division currently has an opening for a Strategic Business Planning Manager located in the Chicago, IL area. As a Strategic Business Planning Manager at Caterpillar, you will be responsible for providing leadership in the development, coordination, communication, and implementation of strategic initiatives for the SD&D Division. This role reports directly to the Strategy Director of SD&D. This role will also provide leadership in support of strategy development and implementation and special projects sponsored by the Division CFO.  This will include project identification, portfolio management, project prioritization and project management.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrable problem solving and analysis skills, quickly generating hypotheses for problems and structuring analyses to support these hypotheses
  • Assertive team player who plays to win, with a demonstrated ability to lead a group to change with effective decision making
  • Rapidly frame complex business problems and develop a strategy for generating solutions, working across many parts of the organization to generate support
  • Manage portfolio of acquisition opportunities including cadence of updates related to milestones, road blocks and successes
  • Research and gather market, competitive, and other information from multiple sources to consolidate in to well-structured outputs
  • Quantify scenarios or alternatives (costs, revenues, etc.) that inform strategic recommendations (e.g., market entry, investment opportunities, make vs. buy)
  • Provide strategy development consulting and project management for cross-division initiatives
  • Ensure appropriate communication strategies and audiences for all messaging related to strategy
  • Define appropriate implementation plans for overall strategy and key projects and provide planning and performance monitoring on an ongoing basis

Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing or related field

  • 4 or more years of progressively responsible job-related experience in at least one of the following:  investment banking, top-tier management consulting, corporate strategy, marketing, or engineering

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Experience in multiple businesses inside and outside Caterpillar, Inc.
  • Previous experience managing large project portfolios including defining the portfolio structure, meeting cadence and issue resolution 
  • Proven record of delivering results
  • Previous experience developing and executing strategic plans and detailed project plans
  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization including senior leadership
  • Ability to quickly and concisely communicate program status and issues
  • Experience with strategy development and business acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, mastery of PowerPoint, Word and Excel
