The Associate Creative Director, reporting to the Creative Director will be responsible for the development and execution of strategic creative concepts across owned digital and print communication channels to support our global financial services brand. This individual must possess a deep understanding of enterprise-wide brand and design digital systems, and have core strengths in design and marketing communications.

The ACD will be adept in transforming marketing and product concepts into visually compelling solutions that meet the needs of the business, while always upholding the Northern Trust Masterbrand. This role's responsibilities include providing direction, management, and leadership to a team of graphic designers.

Major Duties

  1. Lead and direct design team comprised of graphic and production designers including performance management process, training and development.
  2. Conceptualize, develop and manage "best in class" creative solutions for a variety of media.
  3. Apply and extend brand identity systems, typography, photography, color, tone of voice and other ingredients appropriately to create innovative visual solutions that meet business and project needs.
  4. Provide quality assurance of all creative deliverables.
  5. Provides leadership and guidance to staff, fostering an environment that encourages employee participation, teamwork and communication.
  6. Work within the constraints of a budget and within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Lead creative input sessions, client presentations, status updates and other meetings needed to support projects.
  8. Assigns reviews and directs work of design project teams, taking quality of design and adherence to stakeholders' goals into account.
  9. Manages relationships with external suppliers and vendors as needed to ensure quality and timely graphics services.
  10. Manage and direct third-party agencies and workflow.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Proficiency must be demonstrated through a strong design/creative portfolio. Ability to multi-task and work efficiently under pressure with careful attention to detail is essential.
  2. In-depth Functional/Industry Knowledge is required. Knowledge of graphics design and current technology usually acquired through formal education is required when producing and reviewing projects.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required especially when communicating creative concepts.
  4. Technical skills/systems knowledge (Microsoft Office, art creation software such as Adobe Creative Suite, especially in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe DPS and HMTL knowledge) is required.

Experience Required

7-10 years of graphic design experience in a corporate environment or for an agency along with a Bachelor's degree (BA/BFA) from a four-year accredited college or university in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Multimedia Design or related field is highly preferred. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
