You will be joining a small but growing UX team, based at the CraftJack headquarters in Evanston, IL. Our UX team works across both the CraftJack and ImproveNet brands to establish best practices in usability and user experience for our products. You’ll work most closely with our Lead UX Designer and Visual Designer, but also with our Product Team, Marketing Team and Developers to conceptualize, wireframe, design, prototype, QA, and iterate B2B & B2C design solutions for projects as assigned.

Successful candidates for this role will have:

  • Firm grasp of wireframing/visual design with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience with rapid prototyping for responsive web design and mobile applications
  • Proficiency in prototyping tools such as Sketch, Webflow, Axure (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with information architecture and content strategy
  • Knowledge of usability testing, focus groups, A/B testing and surveys
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite a plus

Responsibilities:

  • Create & edit wireframes and prototypes
  • Create & edit graphics
  • Design iteration
    • Whiteboard and sketch UI ideas
  • QA design work
  • Generate experimentation and research ideas
  • Create tests in VWO

Our UX Designers:

  • Formulate, establish, and annotate the navigation, functionality, organizational structure and page-to-page flows of our user experience for our company sites and through our affiliated sites and mobile applications
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and developers to define the functionality and navigation solutions for our various products
  • Communicate designs through fully documented wireframes and prototypes and rapidly modify designs as information changes
  • Conceptualize and introduce innovative design experiments to test user experiences, increase productivity and improve business results
  • Work with internal constituents as a point of contact responsible for guiding UX projects from conception to implementation
  • Educate themselves about advances in user interface (both technical and experiential) and look for ways to appropriately integrate these advances into products
  • Express user experience best practices across the company, and mentor colleagues and staff on best-in-class usability concepts

What you need to be successful:

  • At least 2 years of experience in user interface design with familiarity in interaction design, information architecture, usability engineering, or all three; ecomm, agency or consulting background a bonus
  • Hands-on experience creating site maps, process flows and wireframes for high traffic consumer and business sites and mobile applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively in visual, written and interactive form: design documents, flow charts, prototypes, etc.
  • Desire to help solve business issues faced by other people in their everyday lives, thinking beyond design
  • Ability to articulate strategic issues while balancing these with user needs and technological constraints
  • Experience working in small collaborative teams, including working constructively with development teams

Requirements:

  • Portfolio of work
  • Successful solution to a given design problem

An Insider's view of CraftJack

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Our ethos on work-life balance and productivity today is all about performance and delivering results; less about the hours and more about the quality of the work itself. We prefer working smarter than working longer, often resulting in individuals curating their own day with enough overlap for collaboration while affording personal flexibility.

Noah Mishkin

Founder & VP of Operations

What's the biggest problem your team is solving?

After receiving feedback and questions about certain projects, efforts, initiatives, and how we prioritize product releases, it was clear we could use more information. This launched a new internal video series called, "What Is That?!", 13-minute interviews explaining how efforts align with core values, corporate goals, and customer-centric care.

Founder & VP of Operations

How does the company support your career growth?

Individuals have opportunities to grow here at CraftJack with access to tuition reimbursement, certificate programs, and internal mentorship. We host quarterly business reviews which include a workshop focused on personal and professional growth. We've seen careers grow from part-time internships to full-time new management positions.

Founder & VP of Operations

What is your vision for the company?

I see CraftJack continuing to do what we are best known for: questioning every precedent, principle, and asset within our industry, staying true to our customer's best interest while exploring new technology driven innovation to improve on the successful developments we've already created.

Noah Mishkin

Founder & VP of Operations

What are some things you learned at the company?

A key fundamental factor in my leadership style is empathy. It's less about making decisions based on what I've read or heard works, rather, determining what I myself would and would not appreciate as an employee. Additionally, learning how to be present in a moment and listen well is often far more effective than providing advice.
