Product Design works within the Corporate team to transform our high-quality data and independent research into well-designed products that delight our clients. It includes user researchers, user experience designers, visual designers, and print designers who collaborate to serve product and information design needs across the company. The team works globally to make sure our products deliver a consistently outstanding experience.
The Role
Morningstar is looking for a designer who is passionate about user experience, data visualization, and typography. We need a designer who loves the challenge of turning complex data into great communication design, translating wireframes into beautiful, compelling interfaces, and creating rewarding experiences for our client base of individual investors, financial advisors, institutional research analysts, planners, and financial services enterprises. Visual Designers work with interaction designers, software developers, project managers, product managers, and business owners to develop the next generation of our software and assist in the critical evaluation and continuous improvement of existing applications.
This position is based in our Chicago office.
Responsibilities
+ Assist in the visual design of user experiences for our web and software products and services to improve the quality of the user interactions through design, information presentation, and flow.
+ Work in a cross-disciplinary environment and interact with the marketing team, product teams, and developers throughout the company.
+ Make complex information understandable and formulate design concepts that are engaging, attractive, and user-friendly.
+ Solve challenging information and communication design problems and present multiple concepts for consideration.
Requirements
+ Bachelor's degree in graphic design or equivalent experience/training in the graphic arts.
+ 1-2 years of experience designing for software, web and/or digital products
+ Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills; self-directed, comfortable working independently, and able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
+ Solid understanding of information architecture, web usability, and best-in-class user-interface design; candidates should have experience in both print and interface design.
+ Demonstrated design skills, especially concerning typography, information hierarchy, and data visualization.
+ Curiosity, resourcefulness, and a desire to solve challenging information and communication design problems.
+ Comfort with production work and ability to work with, and improve, routine processes.
+ Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Mac OS X.
+ Knowledge of HTML and CSS is a plus.
