THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a motivated, talented and effective leader to guide our user experience to the next level. The role is both strategic and tactical, and requires a flexible and a highly adaptive approach. The position requires exceptional collaborative, teaming and consensus building abilities, as well as proficiency in cross-discipline and cross-product group cooperation.

Working with the Product Management and Engineering teams as well as other internal and external stakeholders the Director of User Experience reports to the Vice President of Product Management and will play a key role in advancing our leadership position as a SaaS provider with tools that are easy to learn, easy to use and deliver successful results for our customers.  

This position will be responsible for managing and developing a team of talented designers and front end developers based in Chicago, Toronto, and Ann Arbor.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT AREN’T LIMITED TO:

  • Leads effort to evolve UX vision and outputs including patterns, standards, guidelines and implementation of frameworks to deliver an innovative user experience for VelocityEHS product family.
  • Work with product owners to understand market needs & vision, and work with teams to quickly translate that vision into designs for software.
  • Partner with product owners to help prioritize and plan product roadmaps.  
  • Communicate and present design vision to key stakeholders to build cross-functional consensus.
  • Manage the intake process, prioritization, and resource allocation for all UX projects.
  • Oversee effective documentation and communication of design - via wireframes, mockups, requirements engineering and UI components.
  • Hire, coach, mentor, lead and develop UX team direct reports in a manner that fosters high performance and innovation.
  • Lead change management across (UX) team to standardize processes, methodologies and toolsets.
  • Provide thought leadership and cultivate a cross-discipline user experience team including UX Designers, UX Architects, Visual Designers, and developers following human-centered design process and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with team on process improvements and tool implementation to support those processes.

 

 MINIMUM SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4+ years of experience in UX design including in Information Architecture, Interaction Design and UX Design, 3+ years of professional experience in people management, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience maintaining and documenting design standards and interaction rules.
  • Experience with front-end web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience with various tools (e.g. Axure, JustInMind, UXPin, AdobeXD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Invision).
  • Experience conducting or leading user research and testing.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Travel = 5-10% or as needed.

   

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Software as a service (SaaS) experience
  • A background in B2B (Business to business)
